The vocal performances are perhaps slightly better on Hellfire than on Cavalcade.

PS...on the tune "Welcome to Hell"...from 3:43 to 3:48 there is a little set of chords that sounds like it was either a tribute (or directly 'nicked') from another tune by somebody that I cannot place? Any help?

    Or its just a coincidence...

OK I got it! ELP "Trilogy" from about 8:25 to 8:29....sounds VERY similar to my ears. Could be a total coincidence, or not. I guess only these blokes could confirm (or not).

I think Black Midi is one of the most interesting new bands of the last few years. I wrote a review of the band's second studio album Cavalcade: https://pienemmatpurot.com/review-bl...avalcade-2021/

Apparently they have broken up according to Geordie and Cameron's Instagram accounts. Damn that blows. Geordie is working on a solo album.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Damn. That is really disappointing news.

I can't speak to their music overall, having only heard this track, but that video is outstanding: the production, the CHOREOGRAPHY, concepts, sets, costumes, animation.... wow. And the tune is very cool in the context of this video. Very cinematic piece which must be very abstract without these perfect visuals. Thanks for sharing this

Sad but not a surprise. Cameron was in the George Harrison/Colin Moulding bind of being a pretty respectable talent in a band with (a) bigger talent; Morgan was pretty upfront about wanting a career as a sessionman.

Bummer. Glad I got to see them live last summer.

Thanks for that, seems to be primarily a vehicle for Geordies vocals and the music is a step back from black midi.

Geordie Greep of Black Midi has a debut solo album coming on October 4th "The New Sound."

    1st single/video. Rather catchy.

Greep just announced a U.S. tour and he is coming to Bell's Brewery 10 minutes from my house in February. I may have to check that out.

Too bad about the breakup, they release three great albums.

Hopefully, new endeavours will let us keep listening to the members. Greep’s single is a good start

I am finding that I can't get this song out of my head and I keep going back to the video which I think is very clever. I am still not sure that I actually "like" the song, but damn it is catchy. I may try to catch him live when he comes to town this winter.

I have no idea how big a part of the Black Midi sound is generated by Geordie (quite a bit in the song-writing I'd imagine), but I'm having a hard time finding much to like in this song. Something is missing, for me. Maybe in the context of the whole album? Let's see.

I am also little bit disappointed but yes it is quite possible that this song will work just fine as a part of the album.
