Sad news. Thompson created and contributed to some fine British jazz, often alongside her husband Jon Hiseman, Colosseum's drummer. Many of her recordings for the BBC, starting in 1969 and continuing through to 1990, can be heard on the 14-CD set Live At The BBC. The playing (and sound) on the boxset is excellent.

We walked arm in arm with madness, and every little breeze whispered of the secret love we had for our disease
That's awful news. Rest in peace, Barbara.
Frog in boiling water
Not surprising but sad nonetheless. Amazing that she was able to perform with Parkinson's for 15 full years! I became aware of Barbara and her music through her participation in the latter-day Colosseum. I enjoyed her sax playing in the blues-rock setting of Colosseum well enough to check out her solo career. Just last year I bought the 14-disc BBC set devoted to her career and I continue to spin those discs regularly. Supremely intelligent, emotional, beautiful music. RIP.
I was wondering when someone was going to post this. RIP.
Do not suffer through the game of chance that plays....always doors to lock away your dreams (To Be Over)
Here is a good tribute:

I've been toying with the idea of getting that big box since it came out.
I discovered her with the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble and was a big fan since ....she was actually the last of the founding members of the UJRE who passed away, a bit strange to see the list of these great musicians I listened too as a Teenager with a cross next to their name....
United again RIP
Rectification : Eberhard Weber who was also one of the founding members of the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble ist still alive ....
The big BBC set is only $73 on Amazon right now! I would jump on this. I paid about $100 and think it was a bargain at that price.

Played all the Neil Ardley albums she's in, today. RIP.
