The catch is that, while the Rök part is apparently a Norse word meaning fate or doom, as in Ragnarök, Flöte is AFAIK strictly German. The (modern) Scandinavian words for flute are fløyte, fløjte, and fljöt (Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish).

I think the umlauts are merely a ploy to try to snag a Heavy Metal Grammy to add to the infamously-awarded Hard Rock/Metal one.
Should we trust Google translate?

He specifically mentioned COPD, a class of lung afflictions of which emphysema is part of. This usually caused by smoking, but some elderly rock star former heavy smokers prefer to run with the Smoke Machine story for some reason. Maybe he's trying to make it seem like a job-related illness.

Thank you for this. Some reasonableness never hurt anyone.
I like this paragraph, taken from the above site:
More people should follow this recommendation instead of being so quick to throw around accusations. I'm not speaking about anyone here on PE or in this thread, but in the world at large (and especially the Internet) the wanton use of "nazi" and "fascist" has only served to lessen their weight and make it easier for actual nazis to shrug off legitimate allegations. IMO.Because sonnenrad imagery is used by many cultures around the world, one should not assume that most sonnenrad-like images necessarily denote racism or white supremacy; rather, they should be analyzed carefully in the context in which they appear.
Having said all that, I think it was probably a wise move for Ian to change the artwork.

Ian revealed that he was misdiagnosed and does not have COPD but has Asthma.
- How are you doing health wise? I know you announced in 2020 that you had COPD
Ian: That's been reevaluated as a result of some tests that i did a few months ago. It would appear that the COPD analysis is less likely than Asthma...The medication that i take, and i take half of the lowest dose as a treatment kept me absolutely fine for many months now and so far, so good. I'm not suffering ill health from that which is at a controllable lung disease...The balance of opinion from two different specialist consultants in the field, they both have fallen in favor of being Asthma as being the bettter diagnosis and so that is to a degree controllable.

This is a single edit version, mixed by Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief). Video created by Christian Rios/Ray of Light Films.
Much better when Bruce takes control of this. Nowadays Ian tends to mix his voice with a lot of reverb, thin and insipid drums, flute upfront and guitar isolated in one channel. Kind of lazy mix. Bruce mix have more grip and more inteligent approach to spread the instrumentations arround the stereo image.
Sounds like Ian's still mining those quasi-Arabic scales he was exploring on Roots to Branches, which seems kind of an odd choice for a song about Vikings.

Well, it may be because I've been hearing a lot of Tull's 70's albums for the first time (just was never that much of a fan that I bought any albums in my younger days, except Thick As A Brick, of course....and I had cassette copies of the 2nd and 3rd albums back then as well, and I've heard Aqualung about a million times, despite never owning a copy), but I don't find either song posted here very interesting or especially enjoyable. Not bad, is all I can say, and the vocals are, as someone else mentioned, weak. There is no dynamics to them and while he tries to inject some feeling, it seems like he's talking quietly more than actually singing. Just my take.
I did buy TAAB 2 when it came out, but decided it wasn't really very interesting. So I won't be getting this one and I haven't even heard any of The Zealot Gene.
Still, the flute playing is great and more power to Ian for putting out two back to back albums at this point in his career. I still have tons of respect for him as musician and writer.
I believe the Vikings had plenty of interaction with the Arabic world through trade routes. A google search will yield much detail.
This is me nit picking like any good denizen would on a prog board
