Crown Lands - New music for 2023 (Fearless Pt. II)

A friend directed me to this clip over on reddit from the prog forum. I was not familiar with these guys but I quite like the video and performance. Obvious Rush influence.

The middle section is unique enough for me to say I don't see them as a clone band.

For context, here is a nice live studio clip of Part 1:

I learned about them over Labor Day weekend from a friend over on Facebook so I'm a recent convert. Love them! New music is welcomed.

The new track is quite good! I'm glad there are bands still doing music like this.

Thanks for making me aware of these guys. I have since then turned a couple of people into new fans.

"Obvious influence is Rush" is an understatement, don't you think? Still, they sound good and worth keeping an eye on.

I saw their latest album on cd pop up on the Laser's Edge website but now it's gone. Apparently they sold out.

Do they sound as much like rush? I haven’t listened to them.

If they ran away from the label or denied, that’d be one thing. But they embrace the obviousness of their influence. They want to make music that sounds like Rush.

I think Lee and Lifeson should give these guys a call and see if they want to start a band. I’m only half joking.

I believe that would be an excellent idea. Cody can handle the Peart drumming & sing Cygnus in the original key. Geddy could just play bass & sing the stuff in his range. Alex & Kevin trading solos…
    Crown Rush or Rush Lands.
    Cool. [emoji41]

Firmly in the Rush camp rather than Rush-adjacent like Coheed & Cambria.

Or Lost Rush, to pull in the people who confused Crown Lands with Lost Crowns.

As long as they don't call it Addicted to That Rush, or else Billy Sheehan will join. Bass duels!

I just decided to try that DJ thing on Spotify for the first time in a while. The first thing it played for me was “A Farewell to Kings. I looked and the last thing I had played was Crown Lands! That AI is too smart - it must be destroyed!

Bowles’ stage presence in that clip is awesome. That they’re also an amazing drummer seems unfair.

I really hope the band continue in this proggy direction and that they find fans who will embrace what they’re doing. I know prog fans can be quick to dismiss bands like this, bands that are absolutely devoted to that sound we all love. Original or not, pastiche or not, I’m all about this album. I get that it’s tickling my nostalgia, but, man, it just rocks too hard for me to care.

AI-destroying humanity? Sounds like a helluva prog album. (And, yes, I’m guessing there’s at least a few prog albums about that already, right? Heck, “Karn Evil 9” probably counts.)
