It wasn't just the way the 2007 remix sounded, I found several of the tracks like "Back in NYC" and "Slippermen" suffered from radical additions or subtractions.

My only hope is that the live show features all the "original" vocals, which you'd think could be done with modern technology.

I've heard Peter wants to re-record some of the vocals, but it'll have to wait until he completes his new album.

Imagine telling your rock audience to turn the volume down. Those mixes are absolute trash and it doesn't take an audiophile to see (hear) that.

The one small redeeming feature is that Davis reinstated the cold start to the album as it was on vinyl, before the CD versions which faded it in.

I will concede that the Gabriel-era stereo remixes were slightly less bad than the Collins ones. But that's not saying much; they are still too loud, and there's still not a single one I find better than the originals.

Maybe someone should ask Peter Jackson if he's also a fan of Genesis. He can "Now and Then" the original tracks into something listenable

this is the largest 'no brainer/why not?' for the Genesis reissue campaign(s) and bonus track inclusions: we all have those Selling/Lamb/Trick discs from rehearsal that have really cool things on it


if they don't want to put it out the physical release, put it online and/or sell the files a'la the Grateful Dead's 'Angel's Share' series

A good interview with details on Lamb/FGTR, although the inference that some fans view Banks negatively...that does not speak for me. Banks clarifies some things about Hackett as well. (I think the bit he means is that weak Together And Apart documentary where he was talking about Stuermer doing 'Firth Of Fifth'.)

The holy grail for me was a complete Wembley 1975 and given its apparent non-appearance, I'm assuming that doesn't exist. The (un-molested) Shrine show is pretty good but not great, still fairly early in the tour. Later on they were taking more chances with the improvised, totally different 'Waiting Room' and the like.

That would be good news. It seems to me that Cherry Red have put out some good reissues and make an effort to be true to fans' hopes and expectations.

The Lemon Recordings from Cherry Red have some really bad reissues though, like the first Automatic Man.

Well, Esoteric is distributed through Cherry Red so it's not a big stretch.

Yes it's one of their many labels. Many years previously under another distributor they used to be Eclectic Discs. I've seldom seen bad reviews of anything they've put out in either guise.

Banks mentioned in the interview that they uncovered Rutherford's original bass on 'In The Beginning', which King elected to overdub at the time.

The Mono FGTR bootleg, which is the best place to find a good sounding mono version of the album until they decide to release it officially elsewhere than on the original short-lived mono vinyl pressing, includes some alternate versions from the recording sessions, also not officially released. One of them is "In The Beginning (alternate bass track)", so I guess this is what Banks is referring to. Could it be an indication that the contents of this bootleg (including the mono mix) will finally be released officially?

Yeah I also remember hearing about that 50 Years Ago digital release. Maybe some of that could get a physical release in this set. I notice on YouTube the FGTR tracks are indeed credited to Cherry Red.

The Shrine 'Waiting Room' is still fairly close to the studio one. I think my favourite mix of that show is found on the handful of songs that got broadcast on the radio at the time. It has a lot more excitement about it.
