    New music (O'Man)

Hi! It's been a while since I logged in here. I've been doing this "solo project" for some time and thought some people here might get something out of it. I have a site at bandcamp.com ( https://oman5.bandcamp.com/ ) and the songs are also available at Spotify, youtube and whatelse. Stylistically it's all over the map from a trad rock song to more experimental stuff and something in between. Not a very original pitch talk, I know...

I play the bass, most of the guitars and all the synthesizer stuff. All vocals and almost all drums are handled by other people. Here's the latest EP released a 2 weeks ago:

Here's two from an earlier batch. The first is a half-improvised ambient tribute to a certain bass legend, the second is blues prog for a lack of a better term.

WOW!! I love this!! I can't describe what it reminds me of, but it has this really nice organic, great vibe. It makes me feel like I did the first time I listened to the first Echolyn album. There are moments I can hear them, and that's a good thing.
I went straight to Bandcamp but will check the video out later, and the rest of your music when I have a little more time.
I think people don't sit and listen long enough to a new song, to let it develop, they want the center of the Tootsie Pop right away.
It's like 20 seconds, and "poof"! on to the next thing" oh look there's a squirrel". lol

    Wonderful stuff mr O Man.

    Pekka:
I listened to Low Tide (the song) and was really impressed -- that doesn't happen too often on various Bandcamp/Soundclick links I actually go to; great job.
Two other comments: (1) The opening vocal work was very reminiscent of The Thorns (Matthew Sweet, etc.) and sounded great, but not particularly proggy -- though it didn't diminish the song at all; (2) the drums starting around 3:30 sound off-center, especially the snare, though it wasn't that way earlier in the song.

Based on the first song I continued with the EP and Tidal Wave was a good change of pace. Again, though, the snare was a bit off-center, but if that's the artistic choice ignore this comment.

The opening of Second Foot... is great, and focused. But at ~0:35 that focus dissipated for me (and obviously, just one person's opinion ).

But overall a great batch of tunes. Best of luck with future music.

Thanks! Very appreciated! I actually recall the first time I listened to Echolyn ("As The World" back in 1995) so that was a huge compliment.
I actually tried to capture a Max Webster kind of vibe (with the "Low Tide") since I used the same guitar tuning that Kim Mitchell used on a very early unreleased Max tune. The drummer is a big Peart fan so I blame him if my bass came off a bit Geddy-ish.

But again, a big thank you! Made my day even if you end up hating my other stuff...

Thanks! The Thorns and Matthew Sweet are familiar to me but I doubt if the singer know either. Anyway, I let him compose the vocal melodies and acted as a co-producer with the harmonies. I first encouraged him to sing lower as I aimed at the Max Webster -kinda vibe but had to admit his ideas were much better.

Checked the 3:30 and you have a point. Might be the overheads. I will live with it now and fix it when remixing these 5 years from now.

"Tidal Wave" has a drum loop taken from "Low Tide" and it's also doubled with a second starting a few beats after the first one. I think I used only the overhead and room mic tracks to make those.
The guitar part is also taken from "Low Tide", bass synth too. I only played the piano and electric piano, otherwise it's a collage or something like that.

Thanks to you too, great comments!

If I may add my Spotify and facebook links. The latter has some blog style writing about the songs not always to be taken too seriously.

I "composed" this song last night. Maybe a mood piece is a better description and the actual composing was just using parts from another song. The "mother" song is rather sinister and strange, the "child" song ended up being almost uplifting. One of those reasons I'm happy of the new technology. With tape machines and tape machine novice like me it would take ages to assemble something similar.

    The "mother":

Ha! Thanks! The 4:20 lenght was a coincidence, honestly. I don't do that stuff or any other for that matter even if my music might tell otherwise. Not judging, just sayin'.
I did tell my parents that despite what it sounds like I haven't started using.

It's a wonderful natural connection to that place in our mind, that is often overshadowed by all the white noise around us.
It's a gift, and I didn't mean to imply or suggest it was created any other way.
Seriously, I don't even know what the 4:20 reference means..and I just turned 76. lol
I'm not going to look it up, cause it really doesn't interest me.
Keep going, you've got your own style and vibe, and it's a keeper.

Just released this song. An instrumental progressive rock tune for a lack of a better description.
A friend played the drums and I played the stringed instruments and some synth.
