New Song: An Angel on the precipice

I'm just an old geezer tryin to squeeze as much fun outta life as I can.
Creating music is a whole lot of fun, and it keeps me busy since I don't play checkers or race in the over 55 Community Senior Golf Cart Races every week.
Cranking the volume up to 11+ is highly recommended.

    I hope you enjoy.

Glad you're still so positive. I liked the sample.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

Good morning my friend, thank you for checking out my song.
I don't know where they come from, they just come out. lol
I think it's the first time I've ever used my trusty old Waldorf PPG VST software in a song.
I just sat down and started playing a riff with it, and it became the foundation for the song.
I'd forgotten how wonderful it can sound, and the patch is one I created years ago.

    Richard,

Though I can't quite parse the lyrics, I think this is far and away the best thing of yours I've seen since you started posting them here. Thank you for it.

I am truly overwhelmed when anyone on this great forum, with so much professional talent and music being discussed, find time to listen to one of my songs, and then comment.
I thank you all for listening, and for leaving comments. I appreciate it more than you know.

My lyrics...I usually begin with a rough track of music with no thought for lyrics, and will do several improvisation vocal takes, making up words that fit with the melody. Quite often some of those stay in the song, and I build on those with whatever inspires me.
Sometimes, a phrase may not make but sense, but I convince myself I know what it means. lol

a spider's web for instance is about temptation, and painted dots on some tv show, is my view of how insignificant we(tiny dots) are if earth is viewed from deep space, and the tv show is the drama we see going on around us, society, politics, etc.

I will be 76 this July, and I am acutely aware of the sands of time in the hour glass, and feel driven to create as much as I can in the time I'm blessed to have.

Thank you again for listening, and for letting me know you think it's my best so far...I also feel that way.

Nice job, Richard! Love the way the guitars are heavy but blend in with the background so they're not overpowering. Your harmonies are nice, too!

Very nice indeed Richard - love the layered keyboard sounds, harmonies and arrangements. Well produced, well done. You're not getting older, you're getting better!

Hello my friend, and thanks so much for listening.
Appreciate your kind review, and I like the "getting better" part.
    Stay safe this long weekend.

Hey Richard. Nice song. Well produced with a listenable vibe.

New member here, and I'm with you - an old(er) child of 70's prog-rock trying to stay creative by using all the new music technology to make music in ways we couldn't dream of back in the garage band days of 4 track reel-to-reel.

I'll post some of my stuff after I've had a chance to look and listen around a bit.

But wanted to say how much I liked your work and attitude.

Hi SynergyV, welcome to Progressive Ears.
I was surprised to see this post get resurrected, but happy you watched/listened and commented.

Another great thread is the Soundcloud thread where people post their music there as well.
I usually do mine here because I had a video with it.

Looking forward to hearing some of your music. Lot of talented folks here, both professional and home musicians as well.

If you have any links to YT, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, etc, go into your profile and edit your signature which will allow you to post the links.
If you need help embedding any links, let me know, and we'll walk ya through it.

Hi Richard. Thanks for the welcome and hint about the signature. I put in a couple of my YT channels. We'll see if they link properly... I'll probably post my 16-minute prog-rock space opera in a couple days, but you can see it on the channel now. Your YT link seems to be broken, but the SC link if fine. You have a lot of songs there - I'll try to give them all a listen as time allows. Are you creating the music through recording, or VSTs, or a combination? I can't sing, but I'm having fun with SynthV voices. They can be programmed to be amazingly realistic with some work.

Thanks for sharing your YT links, I checked out the space photography page, but didn't have time to investigate, but looks interesting. Will follow up.
I just listened/watched Follow the Light, and it is truly represntative of our favorite prog conceptual songs from the 70's.
Great job on the video, music, lyrics, and as I commented on YT, I'm amazed at the AI vocals you used. They fit perfectly.
I'm going to check out the Natalie page when I get a chance.

I have to come down from the journey and music of Follow the Light, but I'll check out your other songs as well.

Thanks for the headsup on the broken link for YT. I guess I had the link to an older video which I deleted, instead of using the link to my YT Channel. It is now fixed.
Check out what you might find enjoyable, but not really necessary if you don't have time or interest.

Glad you decided to be a part of this group.

Oh as far as my recording process, I use Steinberg Cubase 6 for my DAW. Omnisphere, Native Instruments, Arturia Collection 9, MTron Pro, Hardware: Yamaha Montage, Korg Arp Odyssey, Ensoniq VFX-SD, Roland D50.

A recent song The Silence of the Distance was recorded/mixed entirely on a TASCAM DP24SD Digital Multi-track recorder.
I use NCH VideoPad for my video creating software with most images from Pixabay.

I think it's great that you're using the TASCAM multitrack. Real old-school music-making process and impressive that you really play the instruments. I once thought I could learn to actually play well enough to record it, but soon realized that I could program the DAW to present the instrument far better than I could ever actually play it. Hats off to real musicians.
