It's better than that. It's like having Elvis officiate your wedding ceremony in Vegas.

Reminds me of a dream I had many years ago. I saw Yes play in the produce section at Wal-Mart. Great show!

    .
That must be the 1983 concert, right?

    I was there too.
I am wondering if you remember the setlist.

I have a bootleg of this concert but I am not sure if it is actually it.

I have read online that he played:
    Woodchopper's Ball
    and
I'd Love to Change the World

but this bootleg doesn't have those 2 songs.

I remember some of that night because when he was walking to the stage, my girlfriend at the time jumped up and kissed him then took off her necklace and put it over Alvin's neck and he played wearing her necklace, so that gave me a chance to shake his hand and tell him I'm a huge fan.
I have seen 1 photo of him wearing it in a Toronto newspaper but I have lost that paper years ago and never seen it online.

Anyways, I am trying to figure out if this bootleg is the true one.

Here is the bootleg and maybe if it is it, maybe it's missing songs?!
    1. One Of These Days
    2. Rock And Roll Guitar Picking Man
    3. Good Morning Little School Girl
    4. Moving Too Fast
    5. Slow Blues In 'C'
    6. Love Like A Man
    7. Ain't Nothin' Shakin' (w_ bass solo)
    8. Drum Solo
    9. Help Me
    10. I'm Going Home (medley)
    11. Choo Choo Mama

    they aren't in the medley.

    Cheers.

Yeah, 83 sounds about right (RX5 was his latest album then)

It was a trio with a rastaman/dreadlocked bassist, but the drummer didn't leave an impression.

I don't remember the set list (I wasn't and still am not all that familiar with his solo stuff), but the list sounds about right.
Change the World and Woodchopper were in it, and the first or second encore was Hey Joe (or was it the last of the set?)

We were dead centre against the wall, standing up on our chairs banging on the ceiling (on the ventilation covered with black-painted plaster) so hard that I remember a piece of it came loose and fell into our neighbouring table's draught beer pitcher.

Another memorable concert in those years at the Elmo was Stevie Ray Vaughan, and we were first row table with SRV sweating into our own beer pitcher whebn he was bending over. I saw a few times Mondo Combo at the Elmo as well, during those years.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Thanks for replying to this newbie member. You answered my question, I really appreciate that. I guess the bootleg I have is missing an encore because as he was returning to the stage for the encore, that's when the necklace went over his head and I just had to shake his hand.

Yeah the Elmo is a great party for sure and a lot of fun. Seen many bands there.

Foghat played there in 84 and I got to meet them after their set. That was so cool. A bunch of my buddies were with me and I made a deal with a roadie and surprised my friends at the end when I followed that roadie I told my friends to follow me and we went up the stairs into the room. There they were, what a buzz.

I just wanted to added something.

That bootleg is like around 70 minutes and I remember he played way longer than that without an opening act... so it's missing the encores.

Hey this bootleg has almost driven me crazy but finally thanks man you helped solve the riddle...

    cheers

    Led Zeppelin
    Bad Company
    The Eagles
    Yes

All in a six month period in 1977.

TBH, I think I missed the best years of the Elmo (later 70's... even The Stones played there), because I was too young to get in.
By the time I was old enough, it seemed like fewer bands I wanted to witness were happening there. (Foghat lost me after Boogie Motel in 79)

Other bars where I saw a few concerts:
Nag's Head North (up in North York, not sure if all the Nag's organized concerts, though)
Larry's Hideaway (on Gerrard St, maybe)
The Edge (on Jarvis if memory serves) >> I saw Spirit there with all of the five originals in +/- 83 too

Yes, no opening act, and my guess is he played for almost two hours

I listed seeing Magma live for the first time in 1999 in Chicago. I am lucky enough to also have a copy of that show on CD, so I get to listen to it over and over. Lovely!

Wow! Wish I had a time machine to go back to have seen that. I did see Spirit once with Cass and John Locke and the Staehely Brothers, but I almost don't count that.

Lucky guy, I missed that one. Drinking SRV Beer, awesome. I still to the day don't know how I missed that one but I knew he was there.
