What Are Your Top Five Concerts Of All Time?

I'll start with the 1970s (and maybe add more as we go along)

Genesis - Trick Of The Tail
    Genesis - Wind and Wuthering
    Yes - In the Round
    Rush - 2112
    Peter Gabriel III (almost 70s)
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

  2. #2
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Vision of the Emerald Beyond
    Genesis - The Lamb
Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior
    Gentle Giant
Roger Waters - Us And Them

Tough One. Surprised this one hasn't been done before. Well off the top of my head (and extremely subjective / sentimental) in no particular order :

Gentle Giant @ Louis' Rock City, Baily's Crossroads, VA 1977
Van Der Graff Generator Reunion Show @ London Royal Festival Hall 2005
Peter Hammill Solo @ Chapati, Verviers, Belgium, 1979
Genesis @ Merriwether Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD 1978
Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead @ RFK Stadium 1986 <--- included for the happening & vibe and not necessarily the music :-)

Yes - multiple shows on the 1998 tour at Hammersmith, Bournemouth & Brighton. (never saw them in the 70's)
Pink Floyd - Wembley Stadium 1988
Pink Floyd two nights at Earls Court in 1994
Peter Gabriel - Growing Up show in the round Wembley Arena 2004
Marillion - multiple shows at Hammersmith and Brighton in 1984.

plus many gigs at the Marquee in '83/'84 featuring Solstice, Pendragon, IQ, Twelfth Night & Pallas - those were the days

Very difficult, but the ones which stand out for me are:

    1. Six of the Best Genesis & Gabriel reunion
    2. Pink Floyd doing The Wall at Earls Court
    3. Of all the Marillion gigs I have seen over the years, the one which stands out for me is the Radiation tour at Wolverhampton Civic Hall - they were on fire that night
    4. Black Sabbath at Bingley Hall, Stafford. It was bloody freezing, and Vinnie Appice had to retire hurt owing to a few blisters on his arse when his kit exploded owing to water leaking from the roof. You don't get that at a Taylor Swift gig!
    5. ABWH at Birmingham NEC, subsequently recorded. A magical night

    H'mmm.

November 1981: King Crimson, Old Waldorf, San Francisco - touring Discipline, played a couple of unreleased songs (I at least remember "Neal and Jack and Me," and I probably misremember hearing "LTIA3," but that is burned into my memory somehow.)

April 1977: Peter Gabriel, Winterland Arena, San Francisco - touring "car," killer version of "All Day and All of the Night."

April 1977: Utopia, Winterland San Francisco - touring RA, possibly the most inventive stage show I've ever seen.

June 1976: The Tubes, Bimbo's 365 room, San Francisco - shortly after the release of Young and Rich, quite certainly the wildes stage show I've ever seen.

April 1978: Bowie, Oakland Coliseum, Oakland - touring "Heroes" (the "Isolar 2" tour): first time I ever saw Adrian Belew and was only slightly disappointed that he was not Fripp

July 4, 1981: "Day on the Green," Oakland Colisseum - Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Pat Travers, 415 (Eric Martin), Loverboy, and Ozzy Osbourne -- yes, I did see Ozzy with Randy Rhoades (pbuh). We were mainly there to see Heart though

Bonus because I can't resist: September 9, 1976: "Day on the Green," Oakland Colisseum - the Who and the Grateful Dead. The first time I ever saw either of these; the only time I saw the Who with Keith Moon (pbuh).
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.

    June 17 2000: Happy The Man - NEARfest 2000

June ? 2000: Isildurs Bane - Vervier Belgium

    July 2/3 1983: Peter Gabriel - Torhout/Werchter Belgium

October 24 2009: Archive Utrecht The Netherlands

Lol! Hadn't heard that story before. I did consider putting Sabbath in my list from when I saw them in '81 & '82 - (and about 2006?) great shows.

“I saw Jimi Hendrix.” kinda wins the thread IMHO.

Indeed it is a tough one but considering the historical significance of each and my own self appreciation my TOP 5 would be:

-PINK FLOYD * ANIMALS TOUR 77 OLYMPIC STADIUM MONTREAL
-EMERSON LAKE & PALMER * BRAIN SALAD SURGERY TOUR 73 MONTREAL FORUM
-LED ZEPPELIN * LAST USA TOUR 1977 MADISON SQUARE GARDEN NEW YORK
-CROSBY STILLS NASH & YOUNG * THE ZOOM 1974 TOUR VARSITY STADIUM TORONTO
-GENESIS * THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY 1974 TOUR MONTREAL FORUM

Limited to 5 concerts but my signature has a TON more, jejeje.
I may be older but, I saw live: Led Zeppelin, Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Fish, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Marillion, IQ, UK, Saga, Rush, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Triumph, Magma, Goblin, Porcupine Tree, The Musical Box, Uriah Heep, Dio, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Queen with Freddie Mercury, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood, Steely Dan, Dream theater, Joe Satriani, you get the idea..

“I saw Jimi Hendrix.” kinda wins the thread IMHO.
I actually got to see him 3 times! But the first was magical, and I was not old enough to drive yet. And that show began my love of Soft Machine, too! Plus, MC5! (Plus, I have a CD of the Magma concert I saw at Martyr's.)
I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.

Jimmy - Can't tell you how much I'd love to see After Crying. I own everything by AC but never had a chance to see them live. I did see Banco at FMPM in Montreal and it was sublime.

I forgot one other, well, show- I was at the 1972 Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival- too many musicians to list, but including Archie Shepp, Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, the Art Ensemble, Bonnie Raitt, CJQ, Leo Smith and New Delta Akhra (w/Marion Brown), and more. The AEC show was recorded and released on Atlantic as the record Bap-Tizum. It was astonishing.
