Ten Favorite Fusion Albums from the 70s

Ernie's best of 60s jazz thread was a hit, so let's try it with 70s fusion..., including all sub genre's, e.g. jazz-rock, kozmigroove, symphonic prog, funk, avant garde, zuehl , vocals or not etc.

Here's mine, in no particular order:

Bruford - One Of A Kind
    Brand X - Masques

    Dixie Dregs - What If
Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior
Jean Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean
    Musica Urbana -Musica Urbana
    Herbie Hancock - Thrust

A one-off group with Larry Young. Here's the story:

"Richard Nixon has heard Love Cry Want; you probably haven't. The story: In June 1972, Nixon ordered aide J.R. Haldeman to cut short a concert in Washington, D.C.s Lafayette Park because the president feared that Love Cry Want's roiling sounds would trigger rioting and possibly levitate the White House."

Some will probably call this album cheesy, but I still think it's a good album, well made and played and was pretty popular at the time: Chuck Mangione--Feel's So Good

    Brand X--Unorthodox Behavior
Billy Cobham--Crosswinds (another large hit album at the time)
    Jeff Beck--Blow by Blow
    Mahavishnu - Inner Mounting Flame
    Weather Report-Mysterious Traveler

I've been playing the hell out of them these last 6 months or so.

    Max Lasser's Ark - Timejump

Never heard this one, but I believe it came out in the late 80's. His album called "Into the Rainbow" is actually quite good, but it was released in the mid 80's.

This must have been during Nixon's brief "tripping his nuts off" period.

Then this is pretty much a list of your favorite albums of the 70's.

Oops it's even worse than that, looks like it was 1990. My bad.

Somehow with "fusion" I tend to read "jazz musicians going more rock" than the other way round, so I could never really count AreA, Iceberg, Picchio dal Pozzo or most of the Canterbury artists etc. as such.

    BUT:

The Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame
    Herbie Hancock - Sextant
    Soft Machine - Bundles
    Passport - Cross-Collateral
Return to Forever - Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
    Terje Rypdal - Odyssey
    Placebo - 1973
    Musica Urbana - Musica Urbana
    Weather Report - Heavy Weather

But let's be fair; there was a time jump involved.

True enough. Besides which, kids these days don't differentiate between originators and copycat bands so the year really isn't a factor.
