Which is (needless to say for a Cuneiform issue) superbly curated & mastered. I'm biased, because these precious few months at the tail end of 1969, nodding into the beginning of 1970, are, for me, Soft Machine at their magical peak. So - this, plus the Cuneiform live Noisette, plus the recordings from Backwards & the tracks on the BBC release from these months...the crème de la crème.

Caveat: I no longer post on the Steve Hoffman forums.

EDIT: And I've run out of money so shove your special edition box sets up your keester

IHeart radio does these Year In Rock promos and one of them uses a left channel only folded to mono version of CCR's "Suzy Q", so only the guitar and bass are audible.

The worst was when some CDs of 60s artists added fake stereo mixes as a bonus track.

With mono, I'm only interested when they were bona fide (so not fold-downs) and commercially released. This doesn't seem to have been either and is pretty late in the day- stereo was much better by then. It just smacks of, let's fill the discs up with something.

That's why I'll be getting this set.

Could it be related to "Bass Odyssey"?

Exactly. Much like the bogus "single edits" created for the expanded Topographic set, pure filler.

Curious, yes, but the fact that this has escaped inclusion on two previous expanded versions of TYA doesn't do much to allay my suspicions that it will turn out to be no more than a casual jam. It will probably be cool to hear just for the sheer sound of the musicians involved, but I'm not expecting much musically.

There is no pre-order yet. This hasn't even been officially announced yet. News was leaked to me, and I shared it with the world.

If it’s good I’ll buy that track as a download and then tack it onto the end of whichever of the three versions of The Yes Album (Rhino, Mofi, Panegyric) I all ready have that is closest in sound to the super deluxe.

They should probably announce it and get their preorder window started before whatever The Beatles are putting out this year gets announced.

It would probably have been better to put the single mixes and the mono mixes on 7 inch vinyl for better authenticity, rather than putting them on CD.

A toss up between this or some of the Sabbath box sets for worst value for money. A hard pass for me.

Expanded, remixed 3-LP reissues of the red and blue albums. There's an exercise in pointlessness for you.

The '80s CD release still sounds amazing. I'll stick with that.

Total rip-off of a CD release, as Apple loves to do. They put those on double CDs where they EASILY would have fit on one each.

I have the vinyls courtesy of my mom - so not an issue for me.

^^^ Different rules apply to the Beatles. But not to Yes, so I will certainly be passing on this over the top release.

The red album would have fit comfortably on a single CD, but the blue album contains 100 minutes of music. Even if they were combined they would be too long for two CDs. Strangely, when those albums were originally compiled, they included fewer songs on the red album even though those early songs were much shorter in average length. Supposedly the only reason it was released as a double CD was to keep it a matching set with the blue album. All of which is moot, as Apple is now stretching them both into a bigger and better ripoff.

The blue album was better compiled IMHO. The red album was barely over an hour and there were lots more album tracks they could have included. Still at least they had all the (UK) A sides. I'm not averse to the new versions, which I gather will have more songs in some form.

I understand the old Yes CDs were a mixed bag- some great and some not. I'm not sure about this album but I understand the original Fragile used a very poor tape.

I have the Wilson remix and the gold and the gold Mobile Fidelity disc.

I’m interested in the live stuff but I doubt they have it available separately.

I’m not interested in buying what I already have.

A weird thing popped up on Spotify yesterday: It's a "new release" of the "promo radio edit" of And You and I. Supposedly it comes from an album called "Yessingles." If you ever only wanted to listen to the first 3:25, it's right up your alley!

I often enjoy the first 3:25 of "And You and I", but then think, "Hmmm, that's enough for now."
