    Oh come on, man…

Yeah, blame the people who enjoy collecting and listening to vinyl rather than the companies actually in charge of releasing stuff and whose sole motivator is greed.

I see your axe-grinding is still going strong.

Instead of having to find new stuff in the archives to put on CD, the industry has shifted to churning out "collectible" vinyl releases. This thing is going to keep on happening unless everyone burns their vinyl and turntables.
Hey I resemble that remark! However I'm not buying this particular "any old shit", even with the presumably previously unreleased and as yet unheard Wondorous Stories!

That was an example of what I'd call 'vinyl for the sake of vinyl'. An expansive archive project like that makes no sense whatsoever in that format to me. Just far too bloated.

I'm sure you know this, but if not, that mix is on the expanded 90125. The one that's almost 20 years old now, which is crazy.

Then ironically this singles set is not nearly bloated enough. A nice comprehensive collection of A and B sides could actually be interesting would probably fit on 3 lps or 2 cds.

But just cherry picking for a single lp leads to the dumb release we are getting.

I've seen reactions on social media that amount to 'Shut up and take my money!', so I guess there are people who will dig it.

This is not too unexpected. I think Rhino know what they're doing.

Yeah, they didn't even bother with the pre-Howe singles...maybe because they weren't released in the US.

I like records, but there's an awful lot of pointless 'product' being churned out. Look at the novelty Record Store Day stuff- all those coloured-vinyl singles at ludicrous prices.

I thought the very same thing as I listened to the Knoxville Record Store Day release in it’s entirety yesterday.

Yeah, I was so happy “Leave It” was included so I could finally have that track I spent a good amount of time failing to capture. It’s funny that the packaging for this singles LP is so very evocative of the YesWest era, but only includes two YesWest songs.

Interesting post here. This poster has worked on the recent Little Feat reissues which seem to have been well received by their fans.

"Also, to be VERY clear, all of this chatter about a potential Yes Album super deluxe is based on wildly incorrect tracklisting/information.

Everyone should remain patient in the meantime."

On the previous page he's defensive of the Yessingles release which was greeted euphorically on here.

Never mind, I missed the complete thread that explains the ovoid reference.

Might I suggest something? This what I am going to do - might come as a surprise to many and not as a surprise to many more, but here it is, hopefully it helps someone who hates the idea of Yessingles and/or the tracklisting:

    "Don't buy it'

HUH? Hope I don't blow anybody's mind with that one!

The information I put out may be wrong in detail. However, this edition is turning up in listings of forthcoming releases (e.g. https://www.ibs.it/yes-album-super-d.../0603497831715 ). It's a bit late to be calling it "potential"!

He specifically says that he's in charge of the Yes catalogue at Rhino, so he presumably know of what he speaks! Although, of course, he may also have a particular interest in damping down a leak.

His comments on Yessingles are fascinating. I quote: "There's a lot of demand from younger fans who are looking for a single LP "hits" title that contains tracks from 71-84" and "the development and research for Yessingles was rooted in research, streaming data and retail requests." As I said, it's all the fault of vinyl fans. :-)

It seems to me like exactly the kind of stupid thing that happens when bean counter types show up with a whole bunch of alleged “research” and put stuff together by committee instead of just using some damned common sense. If a single LP hits title is so important and useful then where is the comparable product for, say, Led Zeppelin? Mothership is a double. What about The Beatles? No single LP hits there either. Genesis? Nope.

I'm not sure if Yes have a 'best of' for casual fans on the record racks, no. The original Classic Yes was an odd thing, in that regard. Their two best known tracks at that time were only present as a bonus single- in live versions. Though between that and the later 2cd Yesstory, you get a decent overview.

At the end of the day Yessingles is not something aimed at us and easy to ignore, so I find it hard to get worked up about it.

I don't think you understand what being a fan means. Being a fan means a commitment to get worked up about everything, regardless of its triviality or personal relevance!

Is the casual or newbie fan really going to want the butchered single edit of “Roundabout” rather than the full version that is familiar from decades of classic rock radio play? That seems more like a curiosity for collectors.
