The music that I’ll fall back on that makes me happy is the music I listened to growing up. Mainly music when I was around 6 to 13 years old. That’s when I was exploring all kinds of music and enjoying taking it in. One song that I heard the other day that brought back good memories was The Carpenters “Close to you”. What a lovely song. Even if it’s a little embarrassing, the Chapel Roan song Pink Pony Girl makes me happy because it has some very 80s sounding Fairlight or something and an awesome sounding guitar solo. Makes me happy that kids now are enjoying that, especially the kids who maybe discovered Kate Bush through watching Stranger Things.
Early Beatles, anything from With/Meet The Beatles, to Revolver, and all associated singles make me happy. Always, and until I'm dead.
Oh, yeah, man. Those ages for me too. The Carpenters, indeed (have you heard Karen's cover of Klaatu's "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft?"). Three Dog Night (whose every hit was apparently a cover song). Tony Orlando and Dawn, embarassing as that is. One-hit wonders like Looking Glass and the Five Man Electrical Band... Good times.

I noticed a sign for an estate sale in our neighborhood, and they had a selection of CDs. I picked up a few, including the best of The Smithereens. I spun it last night and I was surprised how I pretty much loved every track. I'm not certain why, but these guys just hit me in my happy place, kind of like a rocked-up Beatles. My favorite track of theirs has always been "Only a Memory," but I was surprised how many of the tracks on this album that I knew, and how much I enjoyed them all. Not sure I need to delve much deeper into their catalog, but this album is a keeper.

When I search for them on YouTube that’s the song that pops up and I’ve never heard it before. Does have a very upbeat and catchy guitar riff to it.
An album that wasn’t very popular but I still play once in awhile is Trickster. Most of the songs on it are upbeat and catchy. First song “Listen to my music” just makes me feel good.

"Girl Like You" was all over the radio and MTV in my area. Pretty much impossible to miss. I never got into the band much, but I knew people who loved them.
I spent some of my childhood growing up outside Philly in the early 70s, and to this day anything on the Philadelphia International label (O'Jays, etc), anything produced by Thom Bell, and most other early 70s soul and rock played on AM radio back then still makes me happy. Don't hear it much though.
I go, and come back, like memories and symptoms.

Of course, part of what makes me happy is remembering the (sorta) horror movie it came from...

Going with the current feel of the thread, I have always found The Free Design to be such good clean fun that I always lighten up when I play a track. Their vocal harmonies are lovely…they are a family band so they have that tight, family-sound. Nothing shows this like their big one:

I was listening to the 5th dimension's version of Aquarius/ let the sunshine in yesterday on youtube. I think their version is the best one.

It's a nice version of "Aquarius," but their "Let the Sunshine in" drives me crazy because it's just the fragging chorus of a song with the best lyrics (imo) in the entire show they came from.
