Former Dream Theater Singer Charlie Dominici Dead

    From Dream Theater's web site-

We are devastated to hear the news of the passing of former Dream Theater singer, Charlie Dominici. Charlie was the voice of DT on our debut album, ‘When Dream And Day Unite’, recorded back in 1988. Beyond being a great singer, he was an incredibly talented songwriter, a well-rounded musician on both guitar and keyboards, and a long-time friend even after his departure from the band. Charlie’s unexpected passing is a tremendous loss to everyone in the Dream Theater family, and we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Dominici family during this immensely difficult time.

WDaDU is my 3rd fave DT and my first DT show was Charlie's last at The Ritz NYC. I bought WDaDU on cassette that night from the merch table.

RIP Charlie - that show convinced me to join a band and changed my musical life.

RIP Charlie. I have clear memories of getting the first DT album in the summer of 1989 after it being hyped up by a Rush fanzine. My first thought was that the singer is having a hard time finding the melodies to sing over such crazy music. The years have proved this is no easy task so kudos to him for giving it his best.

Oh, geez. That's a bummer. WDaDU remains one of my top three DT albums, along with (of course) I&W and Awake.

    RIP.

Sorry to hear that. The debut album is essentially the only one of theirs I truly enjoy, and it always were so.

^^^ For a middle-aged guy who had not been singing professionally for well over a decade AFAIK that was a great performance. RIP.

I have the same sentiment about that CD. Probably because it's the one on which they really enjoyed playing together. Maybe it's technically not their best, but that's not the most important goal of music, isn't it?

    RIP.
