Well, I heartily disagree. The title track of SM and "Clocks" are very nice and there are a couple of other tracks that are OK/have their moments. But you'd have to get up to "Who Dunnit?" until you got to a Genesis track on the level of terribleness of "Ballad of a Decomposing Man" or "Tigermoth."

Not to mention "Every Day" and "The Virgin And The Gypsy" which are also excellent tracks. Also don't know what is wrong with "Tigermoth". I neglected to but should have added an "IMO" to my post that you quoted. I have played Spectral Mornings many more times than No Hackett Required. For that matter l like A Curious Feeling and Smallcreep's Day a lot more also. Maybe just me.

Speaking of Steve Hackett I recently posted on a Genesis facebook group that I like Voyage of the Acolyte better than any Genesis album after Wind and Wuthering. However, I think I actually like it better than W&W but not ATOTT. Actually I might like it better than Trespass too and maybe even lamb. It's really that good imo.

I would just add that Steve has done some excellent songwriting. VoA is a stone cold classic.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

I think this one will remain despite the fact that I've never hated that album (which is more than In can say for the trio's next albums >> though I've learned to cope with Duke and the first half of Shapes.

Mornings is by a margin Hackett's best and better than both Tony's ACF or Mike's ASCD, IMHO.
Just like ATTWT should be compared with Steve's PDT album, the latter two should be compared with Duke, rather than ATTWT, because they were recorded partly in the same place (>> their Farm).

By that Duke time, Steve was onto Defector, which is really not a good album: only The Steppes would find a spot on Mornings (replacing Decomposing Man)

Yep. Several of his last solo albums are really great too but the problem is they are all a bit samey.

It's great but not better than Trespass.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

All fair points chronologically...l didn't put SM, ACF, or SCD up against Duke because that is one of my personal favorite Genesis albums, and l think the only truly solid album they did as a trio.
(Time To Get Out from Defector might be a good replacement for Decomposing Man also ☺)

A solo album certainly equal to any of the parent band's finest albums is Pipedream by Alan Hull of Lindisfarne. It really is a five star album in my book.

I am guessing this will not be a popular opinion, but I am liking the new album from Geordie Greep better than anything I have by Black Midi.

"Every Day" seems pretty half-baked until it gets to that guitar solo; kind of a microcosm for my experience with SH solo in general.

Also don't know what is wrong with "Tigermoth".
It's kind of the reverse of the problem with "Every Day." Or the same problem, just in the different order. It starts off with an instrumental passage that feels like it's leading to something. Unfortunately, what it leads to is a truly horrendous vocal passage, which I find to be as horrible as "Ballad of a Decomposing Man."

I'm not sure whether this applies to Tigermoth, but it sure sounds like it to me.
