Everything by Billy Joel. I'm not saying the man has no talent; it's not easy writing catchy hit songs and he's good at it. But I don't want to hear them, and the thread title is "Songs You're Sick Of," so there's mine.

Surely mentioned already, but Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places. When people start singing along to this in bars it makes me regret not carrying rat poison...

...and John Denver - Take Me Home Country Roads. When people start singing along to this it makes me regret not carrying anthrax.

... Brown Eyed Girl is playing right this second at the pub. I like the song. I'm tired of it, but not sick of it.

    That Champion song by Queen.
Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah no matter who performs it.

I used to love that Hallelujah song, but it has been so overdone by so many people that I am way over it now.

I still love the Hallelujah song, but it depends on who is singing it.

It was originally written and recorded by Leonard Cohen in 1984, but was not a hit for him. It was covered by John Cale in the early 90’s and then Jeff Buckley did a version of it that became popular a few years later. Since then it has been recorded by a bunch of different artists over the years. It is also a song that shows up on every season of the major singing talent shows like American Idol, The Voice, AGT, and others. There is actually a whole documentary film about the song that came out last year that I found very interesting. But......I have heard it so much that I am burned out on it. Here is a live version of Cohen’s original:

I like the John Cale version, but in a way it is played to death by all those people on all those talent-shows.

At the end of last year we had a Top 2000 with listeners of a radiostation voting for the songs they liked best. It's a kind of tradition and last year it was the 25th edition. Bohemian rhapsody has been on number 1 in 20 editions. (also a tradition). Last year there were 3 versions of Hallelujah. The hightest position was Leonard Cohen, then Jeff Buckley an the lowest was some participant on some talent-show.

Depends a lot on the context, some songs that I wouldn't listen too are quite fun to sing in a Karaoke bar with friends...when I was a student I worked in a big supermarket , they had a French week and there was a 30 minutes tape with French songs playing for one whole week the entire day...Edith Piaf's " Je ne regrette rien" really freaked me out every time it came back again....

Thought of another one out shopping this week: "The Joker" by Steve Miller. I definitely don't need to hear it ever again!

After college I worked as a busboy for the Marriott in Providence. The lounge, open to the restaurant, booked show-bands for one- to two-week performances. The Angels played there 6 nights a week for 2 weeks. I heard "My Boyfriend's Back" 4 times a night, opening and closing each set, for those 2 weeks. Even though I believe it to be a stellar example of the girl-group era, I need not ever hear it again. Oh, and their jokes, in the same order each set each night, were horrendous.

Looking forward to my day in court.
