most recent thing I've heard Belew on is the Gizmodrome live set. he somehow sounds exactly like he did in the 80's. it's kind of freaky actually.

I certainly don’t mean this as a criticism, but when I saw Stick Men last, it seemed time has caught up to Levin. Not in his playing or his power or his command of the music. But he does look like a man in his late 70s nowadays.
I am suggesting nothing more than an observation I made, and I’m sure others will have different impressions. I know this is a sensitive subject, and perhaps it is unfair for me to comment. I hope Levin continues playing this music, his music. It’s always wonderful to be in the presence of it.

I saw him in person several times on CTTE couple weeks ago and, sure, he looks more like his age. I didn't say he hadn't aged - I said he has a look that doesn't age much. Essentially, he has a look that made him look older than he was for awhile and then you don't notice the aging process so much over the years. My father in law looked basically the same age for the first 25-30 years I knew him - at least if you looked at him casually until eventually it was more noticeable. But, in both cases, I think they look more like their 50 year old self than most people I know or see in the spotlight.
Speaking of Stick Men, I wonder why they never went with the seemingly obvious idea of having a guest spot with Belew like they did with Collins and Cross, or did they figure they already covered that ground with the Crimson Projekct?
Beat is probably one of a couple of my least favorite KC studio albums, but it's still really good. (Though Requiem is one of my all time favorite KC tracks) I'd probably see this lineup if they came around here.

I spun Discipline last night in headphones for the first time in a while - it's probably been seven years (or probably more) since I spun this sucker. Honestly I was blown away all over again. I remember hearing this for the first time in college on vinyl with a few buddies at a fraternity house, indulging in any beverage or substance that was in a solid 1/2 mile radius of us. That first spin was a musical lightbulb moment for me - the polyrhythms, African influence, the intricate and amazingly precise guitar counterpoint, Levin's stick, etc. It reminded me so much of The Talking Heads, but then again not really. Anyway, last night almost gave me a flashback of that crazy night. There is something to be said of enjoying a particular loved piece of music every once in a blue moon, just to keep it fresh.
I remember getting Absent Lovers, listening to it on a near daily basis, then buying a copy of Discipline and thinking my turntable was broken lol

What I love about Discipline and Beat is that the former perfectly goes into the latter. Almost seamlessly.

I was 100% certain they would play Montreal and Toronto but never in my wildest dreams thought they would play in Halifax! No travelling, I'm beyond amazed!
October 18th, Massey Hall, Toronto....through ticketbastard. Probably really expensive, which means that I'm probably out. I would see it, but ultimately it's a glorified cover band. More power to those that will lay down the cash.
Neil
EDIT: Just remembered that David Cross and his band are supposed to be doing Larks' a few weeks after that, on October 30th here. Tickets should be more reasonable.

9/22 at the Majestic Theater in Dallas! I will be there this weekend for Hackett. Nice venue in downtown, saw Utopia there several years ago.
