I have recently been on a major DP binge and it is clear that some of the post-Blackmore and Lord albums stand up with the best of their work. Maybe not as innovative as the original Mk 2 group, but more consistent. Catchy and satisfying riffs. Thoughtful, often humorous lyrics. And great great playing by "new" boys Steve Morse and Don Airey. What a genius move to bring Morse into the group. Sorry he is gone now but I look forward to the new album with the new guy.

I do agree that some Yes fans don't really have a sense of perspective of where the two bands now are.
TBH I haven't kept up with the recent DP ones but Now What? was a very good album.
Totally agree. DP have been on a creative run in the last decade for sure. Yes, not so much, although I did like the most recent one they did.
They have a new one coming soon. Single was just released a few days ago and I think it is a banger.
I liked the new single too.

Purpendicular and Now What!? are amongst the strongest DP releases ever IMHO. All the other post-Blackmore albums have good songs and a good dose of creative energy, but these ones really stand out. Whoosh is a fine one, but it's a bit too polished or poppy to my taste. The upcoming new album may return to a grittier sound.
DP's profile has certainly also benefitted from having relatively stable line-ups in the past decades, from having a constant, high-profile producer since 2013 and from having a record company that puts some effort into promoting them.
Yes' current output compared to their past body of work is more of a let-down. Purple is more consistent.

I've always had mixed feelings about Bob Ezrin, but he has really brought out the best in latter day Deep Purple. Now What is my favorite but I dig them all including the covers album. Can't wait for this one to drop.
It looks like I will have a conflict as well (surgery) but in my case I'll transfer them to my son who will go for me.

I had bought a ticket for the Camden, NJ show (basically their Philly show). Just heard it’s been cancelled. Have not heard about refunds or anything yet.
I saw that refunds would be issued to original method of payment.

It has "moved" to a smaller venue in Atlantic City on the same date. Tickets from the Camden show are not being transferred to AC. Advance ticket sales for this tour are NOT as high as they were expecting...
Aha! I had not heard of the AC show. And that is a significant difference for me - Camden is a half hour drive, while AC is close to 90 mins. Not sure if I am following them down there.
My tickets have been sold. At least it was not a total loss. Hope everyone who goes to the shows has a great time.
Looks like Deep Purple have been playing five new songs from the =1 album. Whereas the most recent song Yes are playing is 44 years old. Yep, they've even dropped the five minutes' worth of Mirror to the Sky they had been playing as of late. Way to get behind that new album, boys!

I love that Ian Gillian said at one point that all songs were once new songs. I wish Howe had the confidence in the new material to play even three songs let alone five. Deep Purple is a good example of how older bands don't have to be all about the nostalgia. Even Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks played 2-3 songs of their new album and it hasn't even been released yet by the time they played their first gigs this summer.
I was just talking with my brother about a new record that’s real great, and he won’t believe by who. Why, Deep Purple, =1. And his response was “yeah, I can believe it”. Anyway, this is my favorite so far from 2024, rock on DP!!
