Thread: ASIA, FOCUS, MARTIN TURNER & CURVED AIR tour?

Since Florian Pilkington-Miksa has unfortunately passed away in 2021, this is rather unlikely (re: Curved Air)

Oh, didn't know that. Sad news indeed.
I know he was back in one of the many later "modern" Curved Air reincarnations.
    No "maybe" then unfortunately.

FOCUS: Thijs Van Leer (+ maybe Pierre Van Der Linden, drums)
WISHBONE ASH: Martin Turner (though legally they can't be called W.A)

EDIT: I was informed that Florian Pilkington Miksa passed away in 2021, thus he obviously won't be part of this. (R.I.P)

Only 5 "original founding members" remaining now...
If this US tour actually happens, here's my (purely speculative) guess... There will be one back-up band. They come out with Downes, it's Asia. They come out with Sonja, they are Curved Air, etc. It just seems very unlikely that this tour could make a profit if they are carting around four full bands. All those hotel rooms, visas, transportation, etc. It adds up pretty quickly.

RIP Florian... I had missed that news as well.

Indeed. They are all old bands. This is what happens to old bands.

Asia first played a show with only one original member in 1993. Martin Turner is billed as a solo artist, and has been touring with his own band since 2005. (Wishbone Ash (without Turner) first played a show with only one original member in 1994.) Focus first played a show with only one original member in 1976. Curved Air first played a show with only one original member in 1972!

Yes, I think that could happen. At least to a degree.

OK... I'm very impressed! This could be the best non-Wetton Asia lineup yet. And I'm glad to see my prediction from above (one back-up band for all the groups) hasn't proven to be true, at least for Asia.

I really don’t think that was ever in play.

John Mitchel and Vigil Donati in the lineup is really cool. I would go see this tour if it came close to me. Have there been any dates posted other than the Arcadia one?

Agreed. I always love seeing Focus and have only ever seen Curved Air once, so whatever that lineup is I'd like to catch it. I wasn't particularly concerned with catching Asia prior to this lineup, but those are excellent additions. I hope the Arcada date holds because I can make that one.

OK. But even with John Mitchel and Vigil Donati, it's still just ASIA music. An Asia cover band.

I'll have to go just to see Focus & Curved Air, which I have never seen before. And Roger Dean will there also so that's always a treat.

Well, the Downes part was right!

Does anyone know this guy at all? It looks like his entire music career to date has consisted of self-recordings of cover songs on social media.

Nope but I just checked a few things and he sure is talented ... don't know where Downes found him (I guess online) but he has several Asia songs on his Youtube channel and I notice he also did a John Mitchell songs a few months ago. He sure has a voice suited for Asia songs:

I believe he was the singer on the Asia material at the Wetton Memorial concert

Yes, although I can't find the videos now, John Mitchell was having a a very difficult time playing the right notes at that gig which I thought was strange - under rehearsed I suppose.

Some pretty odd things in that list
First off, are they really going from NY to OR and then back to the east coast?
And, to the best of my knowledge, there is no state with PN as its abbreviation. It's not PA - they have those dates listed. There is a Huntington NY (note the "ton", not "don").

How long do people think the 3 opening acts are going to play for? those are the ones i want to see

Clearly geography is not their strong suit

July 6 is Medford, MA not Medford, OR
    July 7 is Huntington NY
Jul 18 is Evans GA, not CO

    so nothing west of Wisconsin...yet

Last date of this tour is July 31st. First date of the Yes tour is August 14th. My guess is this is it for Asia dates this go-round anyway.

"Jul 30: MO St Charles The Armada Theatre" should actually read "IL St Charles The Arcada Theater."

Curved Air is going to be an acoustic set. Sonja with a guitarist and violin.
