Sounds like Elton on his Yellow Brick Road crossed with AC/DC's Highwaywithout the slightest imagination.

interesting to hear Gilmour on a Less Paul (not sure if it's a first or not)

Yeah, I like it quite a bit. Enjoyed it on my afternoon road trip, in fact.

    DG solo albums

    1- Debut (60% worth keeping)
2- Division Bell (three songs WK)
3- About Face (two songs WK)
4- Rattle that Lock (two tracks WK)
5- Permanent Lapse Of Reason (the intro track is OK, the rest is worse than AF))
6- On an Island (always ended up zzzzzzzzz.... before the end, so I probably never got to mlisten to the full thing)

    This is better than RtL

On an Island is his ”masterpiece”

For me, the entire debut album is worth keeping.

DG plans to tour this one. I'm certain that nothing whatsoever in this article is going to generate any discussion about setlist possibilities

    https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/david-g...n-eight-years/

I'm on board for buying the album (the single has grown on me a bit) but in truth I'm reluctant to see the show unless it comes super close and is reasonably priced (stop laughing...oh go on, even I'm laughing at that ). When the inevitable live recording pops up, I'll be happy to settle for that.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I saw the RTL tour at MSG. Paid crazy prices for the "honor" of being able to watch the band on the closest screen, and to have Gilmour's voice drowned out by the 30K people that i was NOT paying to hear sing.

    Fool me once....

Ugh...yeah, I can imagine exactly that and that's nothing I want to go through.

My wife got me to listen to On An Island enough times (without falling asleep, lol) that I came to enjoy it. Maybe because I'm getting old and I find myself drawn to mellower stuff. That said, I still think Gilmour's first solo album was his best, even though the lyrics on that one are basically just there because he didn't want to do an instrumental album (I guess). Personally, I really wish he would do an instrumental album, because I'd probably like that more. In any case RTL did nothing for me (or my wife, for that matter) and this new track seems pretty uninteresting. My wife wants to see him when he tours, but I think she might change her mind when she sees how much it will cost (though who knows, maybe Gilmour will insist on low ticket prices....LOL!).

Anyway, I can't even express my admiration and respect for Gilmour enough....he was one of my biggest guitar and vocal influences....but in general his solo material is not great, even the first album that I actually like a good bit. I feel the same about Waters solo material, for what it's worth, though Amused to Death is better than any Gilmour solo album (the rest, not so much for me). The two of them have never even come close to what they did together, so it's a shame that they were never able to put their animosity aside and really collaborate on something, though I suspect Waters might not have been capable of collaborating with anyone since the Final Cut.

There are highs on the different late-era albums from Waters, Gilmour and Wright that all have a bit of that spark of "what could've been" for me but I agree.

The best I could have imagined would've been some sort of light overlap maybe 10 years ago when the gap between them was most narrow: Waters having Gilmour add a guitar solo to a song, or Gilmour using a Waters lyric for a song. But it feels like the two of them really stopped collaborating musically back in the mid/late 70's. It was an amazing run, but yeah...it's the past.

I really like the single, and if I turned out to be friends with a crew or band member I would absolutely accept a slot on the guest list and see a gig 😆

Gilmour’s playing remains a treasure, no matter the song it’s attached to.

His playing hasn't aged a day, and kind of like Mark Knopfler (or another certain MK I might note ), he rarely seems to hit a clunker

Only UK dates at the Royal Albert Hall in October announced. To access the presale you have to pre order the album from his site!

It seems he's going to avoid playing any 70's Floyd this time around - maybe due to increasing tension with Waters?

No Money, No WYWH , No Comfortably... , No Echoes,...
THAT would be a real challenge for D.G since the big majority of his audience is there for the "BIG P.F hits", all from the R.W era (or composed by him).
But he will play some Syd Barrett songs (Astronomy Domine).
He has enough solo material to fill a full length concert but this is not what his audience is expecting.

The first song released is very surprising indeed!

"No Money, No WYWH , No Comfortably... , No Echoes,..." Thank god, his last tour was like a classic rock show, playing the same old songs the same old way. I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl and have to say I was hugely disappointed. If I never hear WYWH, CNumb or Shine On 1-5 it would be a day too soon. He's said in the past he has no connection to his first two solo albums so I have no expectation he'll dig anything from those out, he didn't on the last tour. RTLock was pretty awful, he's trying to be a pop singer like those he loves, but he isn't one of them, sadly. He certainly doesn't have the lyrics behind him to support that, either, in my view. I doubt there's another tour behind this one and would still like to see it...and will always hold his first solo tour as a high water mark, it was flipping amazing!

Although I enjoyed it I always wondered why when it was a DG solo show he included so much Floyd even having the same ending as the 80's and 90's shows. Also disappointing how he ignored his first (and best?) solo album.
