I think it's an okay album (I returned to it a few times earlier in the year), but this did make me laugh.
I preferred On An Island. Some felt that was too ploddy and I get that, but I thought the songs were better TBH.
There is a 'by the numbers' quality about those two instrumental tracks on Rattle That Lock. Those did feel like they were only there because it was expected of him.
Thanks for writing my opinion
I find that RTL is 2/3 an album and I believe that the instrumental tracks were there because that is what he is expected to do. I find them enjoyable but if he wants to go in another direction, then I'm here for it. That change comes with larger risks, but at this stage of the game, the worst that can happen to him is a slightly bruised ego if the gamble doesn't pan out.
FWIW - Two of my fav tracks on RTL are the 2 versions of The Girl In The Yellow Dress. Haven't decided which I enjoy most.

Several dropouts after the 2 minute mark
That's about it, really!!!
Maybe he'll inspire himself on a Japanese airport jingle this time.
Well , at least the three instrumentals pieces were OK (ok two of them were more interludes), but this was way better than anything in the total bore OAI
Rogue Waters' latest real album (Is This The Life) was definitely worth a detour, IMHO
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I once loved Gilmours music and he is/was a top-notch artist, but I don't think he has found a way to get off the now tired (Latter day) Pink Floyd path that has been explored for much too long (The Wall was a huge bore, I liked Dance songs better.) There are no more sights to see, and it has all become cliche. Even the lyrics on this track are full of standard cliches. I'd like to see him get more experimental, but we are all getting old and as seniors we tend to go where the terrain is comfortably numbing. But he DID put a ukelele on this track it sounds like.
In a word... Nope. Same can be said for Roger... Stop with that SOUND! do something else FFS... If they could just pick up Eugenes Axe again and sharpen it up... Set the controls for the heart of some mayhem!!!
Kick it... Don't fall asleep on it!
I mean no disrespect to their brilliant Legacy. What once was.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Someone stated there are several dropouts on this youtube vid ... Means that it's getting played a lot. at least he can get paid.

If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

As to The Piper's Call, it's.....fine? I guess? It didn't turn me off as quickly as Dark Side Redux did, so...there's that I guess
If nothing else, now I'm motivated to put on the Piper at the Gates of Dawn instead!

Oddly enough the artwork has an early Floyd vibe, as does the title of this new track. It is a fine solo Gilmour song to my ears, which means that it sounds good and doesn't induce much excitement.
Well, I'm not expecting much from the old Floyd survivors these days. Their 60s - 70s albums gave me enough excitement for this lifetime.
At least Gilmour focuses on music instead of political rants.
I tend to agree - there's nothing really wrong with the track. The guitar bit at the end was nice. (Although it is sort of sad that I now consider that statement to be praise, for a Gilmour release.)
I only listened once, but the lyrics seemed riddled with clichés. I know it's not going to happen, but he needs to find a real lyricist. Surely he must still have Roy Harper's phone number laying around somewhere
I actually found myself thinking I'd spring for a deluxe copy IF it included an instrumental version of the album.
In general I don't hate Sampson's lyrics with a fiery passion, and I can appreciate the convenience of having one's entire creative team literally "in house" but yeah...some of the lyrics are distracting enough to take me out of the music.

High praise, indeed
Well, it's mostly drawing a distinction between just "I don't love everything she contributes" and the more black/white "she's a fraud and destroys everything she touches" that sometimes comes from the "Waters 4Ever" camp in the Pink Floyd Great Divide.
I legit enjoy about half the lyrics she contributed to On An Island and Division Bell, and the couple of tunes I really enjoy on Rattle have her words and IMHO benefit the tunes. But the remainder of her lyrical contributions range from "eh, it's fine" to "yeah, I don't want to listen to that song like that" for me (the latter "peaking" with Louder than Words to be honest, kind of a nadir even within just her lyrical contributions).

Other than the odd serious clunker ('they tell me to go fuck myself', 'diss each other on sight'...ugh!) they are OK.
Ultimately Gilmour and Waters needed each other artistically more than either will probably ever admit. Maybe there are people who think the solo albums are better than what they did together. I don't, but on balance I listen to Gilmour's more. With Waters I think Amused To Death and Is This The Life... are good, the 80s albums less so.
Man, are those just the most Polly lyrics imaginable. She rattles off the banalities one after the other. Can't believe David ever let himself get roped into that writing partnership.
It's ok..
