Spinal Tap to Return in 2025!

Just saw an announcement on FB today that Rob Reiner has assembled the cast of Spinal Tap to reprise their rolls for a sequel due out in 2025.
Cameos by Elton John, Paul McCartney & Garth Brooks.

I'm sure more knowledgeable folk here on PE can find more details on the Internets than me.

I sure hope the "old farts" still have their comedic timing. Sequels seldom live up to the originals.....I'm thinking the Downton Abbey & Deadwood sequels.

I hope it's good as well - it's been 40 years (!!) since the original.

    Rob Reiner update:

“It’s going good,” he began. “Our first screening for our family and friends will be probably in August, and then sometime in September we’ll start showing it to distributors, and we’re hoping to have it out sometime late spring or early summer of next year.”

He added that filming is currently nearing a close in New Orleans.

"The plot — conceived by Guest, McKean, Reiner, and Shearer — sees Spinal Tap, England’s loudest and most punctual band, reunite following a 15-year hiatus for one final concert."

    Hell, yeah.

I saw them on tour years ago and met them and Dave Kaffinetti briefly after the show. They all stayed in character which was hilarious.

Dave K. is a buddy of mine. He's a sweetheart, and funny as hell. Also a great musician. He's moved back to England after having a stroke a couple years back, so I have not seen him since......

No thank you. I thought the original was not only disrespectful to rock, but very much also to roll.

This is Spinal Tap is a legendary movie. I think that the fact the sequel is made, especially after such a long time isn't looking promising.

I'm up for it. For me its the sort of concept that can work in a modern environment if done right, but that's the key. Good that original cast and director are involved.

The thought of the band members trying to navigate their way through the changing landscape of the music business is intriguing.

Maybe "Big Bottom" gets sampled by a rapper and suddenly there is a spike in Spinal Tap streaming

Agree, there are so many directions they can go with this. I think it has a chance of being really good.

Interesting take on it. Personally, I love the film and think it is one of the funniest rock n roll movies ever made, but I remember when it came out I watched it with a friend who I thought would really love it. He had the same reaction as you did and did not like the movie at all. Different strokes I guess.

    Damn right it's disrespectful.

Anyone who's worried about respect has lost the basic rebellious spirit of rock.

The Topographic medley is supposedly a highlight of the film.

I was just being silly with my comment up there ^^ and semi-quoting I've now forgotten who. I love the movie unconditionally.
I don't really expect this update to match it, but I do expect it to be funnier than The Return of Spinal Tap in the 1990s. I think so much has changed in the music business since then that there's much more potential for mordant satire, and hopefully it will avoid being too self-referential.

During that time their appeal has become more selective.
