For all us creators: any interest in a fun creative "challenge?"

Nutshell: I was thinking it would be fun if a bunch of us all challenged ourselves to each put together a song during this October and then share all our the results at the end of the month right around Halloween

I've seen things like this before, and I've participated a few times...as long as it remains in the spirit of things (i.e. it's not a contest and it's not mandatory or anything...just a fun excuse to kickstart some writing), it can be kind of a hoot! I figure now would be a decent time to make the suggestion so we all have a few days to mull it over.

    Only "Rules:"
    • No time limit...not all of us can bang out a 20-minute epic!! Even a 1 minute miniature would be cool if that's what comes out.
    • Plan to share it via one of the free/easy to access services like Soundcloud or YT or Bandlab. Preferably not Spotify (some of us aren't users ).
    • Let's try and keep it as fun as it is challenging Life's stressful enough!
    • If anyone wants to do a collab, go for it! But I'm guessing most of us will do our own thing

    Any takers?

I'd be interested. I can contribute bass or guitar, and maybe even some vocals, as well as composition/arranging.

^^ Whoops...I meant each of us doing a song of our own and then sharing all the results here at the end Sorry, let me clarify that above!

Isn't there a rock opera out there waiting for the right music?

    I can't decide if that's a threat or a lure

Oh, OK. I might have a few ideas kicking around. I'll see what I can come up with.

Interesting idea, but at this moment not for me.
    A) I'm a slow worker
    B) The new synthesizer I'm going to buy (Behringer MS-5) has a delivery-time of 2 or 3 weeks and I would want to use that in a new piece.

Understood and no worries! It's simply a fun idea and heck, if enough folks enjoy it maybe we'll do it again at some point in 2025

I still consider as something I would like to participate in in the future. Where is the time I composed something in a couple of days? Yes, I know, the program I used then was limited so I had less possibilities and there wasn't the distraction of internet.

Is there to be a theme for this, like maybe a Halloween song of some type, or is it anything goes? Having a common theme might make tyhis more interesting and give us somethign to go on rather than a kitchen sink approach - no?

Hey, if folks want in and want a Halloween theme, that's great by me I didn't want to get too restrictive out the gate.

As much as I'd like to have fun with this I just wont have the time this month. I'm knee deep in a car restoration and would like to get it finished before the weather turns cold. it's a great idea though and January through May is when I have free time on my hands for music making. I'm pretty busy for a retired guy.

Love it! I'm in! Soooo....no real rules, though, as far as style or approach or anything?

    Sounds fun!

Yeah! We're all pretty distinct creators so let's let everyone stay in their respective comfort zones
