I’ve had enough Pink Floyd for one lifetime, but maybe SONY can make an action movie! Compete with Disney and Marvel! Put the boys in capes or space suits. The sky is the limit.

When Michael Jackson bought the entire Beatles Catalog he did not realize that Little Richard’s catalog came with it. He gave it all back to Little Richard, free of charge.

Who is left of the upper tier rockers to sell their catalog? Floyd was one of the major holdouts, but I believe Zep and the Stones are still available...for a substantial price (though in the Stones case, they'd rather screw over the Kleins and deny the sale).

That's pretty significant isn't it? Seems like they got the best of both worlds, unless I am misunderstanding...

Apparently $400M is sufficient for Roger to put aside the differences with Nick, Dave, and Rick's estate

That absolutely destroyed Jackson's friendship with Paul. When Michael told Paul he planned on buying the catalog, Paul thought Michael was joking.

    from variety:
The deal comprises recorded-music rights but not songwriting, which is held by the individual writers, as well as name-and-likeness, which includes merchandise, theatrical and similar rights

Paul bitched about it, but the general response to that was "why not buy it yourself you cheapskate"

I think Gilmour alluded to something like this (or was it Mason?) or I read it somewhere that he would love to extract the whole band from the decision making process when it comes releases of their music. I wonder if this deal then also covers anything that is in the archives i.e. live recordings etc.

If it's recorded it belongs to Sony now essentially

What with the early years set, which covered the bulk and more of my archive Floyd needs, what might we expect Sony to do to milk the catalogue drier than Gandhi's flip flops?

IIRC Paul and Yoko teamed up and put a bid in but couldn't outbid Michael. Don't remember why they couldn't come up with the money. I don't know how money works for really rich people but l do know that sometimes their money is tied up in other things. He didn't have a Paul McDuck money bin where he could just get a couple of wheelbarrows full of cash.

DG reportedly said, it wasn't so much about the money, he wanted to be done with the business of running PF. DG told RollingStone he wanted "to be rid of the decision making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going."

I want a box set of only outtakes and broken down takes including people yelling at each other in the studio.

Gilmour and Waters fighting in the studio.

I'm all for it if it includes the possibility of new material. AI will do wonders...
A brand new Barrett composition about plastic mushrooms with a blistering Gilmour solo at the end.
A drunk Waters ranting over a quiet, pastoral Wright piano piece.
Mason's first full blown epic track about car racing, with a Guy Pratt slap bass solo in the middle.
A vibrant electro-pop single will mark Bob 'Rado' Klose's triumphant return to the band, and the first ever Roger Waters/Polly Samson lyrical collaboration.

Alan Parsons mentioned in a couple of interviews recently that he has remixed the Pulse live soundtrack in both stereo and atmos which he thinks will be released in the new year. Quite what form this will take is unknown, whether its for another Dark Side live release or a full remixed live album remains to be seen. It wasn't that long ago that the fully restored and re-edited Pulse Blu Ray set came out...cue the intro of Money....
