    Phil Lesh RIP

Word is coming out about the death of Phil Lesh. Eric Alper wrote this a short while ago: "Phil Lesh, legendary bassist and founding member of The Grateful Dead, has passed away at 84. His pioneering spirit and deep, soulful playing shaped the Dead’s iconic sound and influenced generations. His legacy of creativity, community, and endless jams will live on."

    More to come.

Sorry to hear. Loved his book. Obviously a brilliant musician and huge influence on many, and a good man. RIP Mr. Lesh.
I go, and come back, like memories and symptoms.
I go, and come back, forever, evermore.
Part of me remains abandoned in a circle.
    Part of me moves on.

    Sorry to read it.

I remember looking at one of the modern classical music journals the music school library had in the 90's and finding that Lesh wrote CD reviews for it.

A very sad day. A great talent and unique voice on the bass.

Perhaps the most musically gifted member of the Dead, really an awesome bass player and able to keep them together when they were off on their jamming tangents. Seems like he led a very good and long life.

A landmark bass player on all accounts (see "New Potato Caboose" for starters), a fine songwriter and an articulate and intelligent man. You -have- to be when writing a tune like "Unbroken Chain".

So much of what offered a deeper set of values and insight to life is coming apart. This is a hard stage of human history to be alive in and to still understand.

Never got into the Dead. In the 60s when I was listening to The Beatles, Motown, and Top 40, my older brother was listening to albums titled Anthem Of The Sun and psychedelic stuff, so I heard those early albums, and the early country rock albums. Never been a huge fan but I prefer the stoned out, psychedelic stuff.
