Little Feat / Duane Betts concert

I saw Little Feat last night along with Dicky Betts son Duane's and his band opening..
Most of Duane's set washed over me but when they kicked into Jessica I stood up and took notice. The kids got it.. channeled his poppa for that number for sure.
Onto the Little Feat set.. they are a very tight unit. Bill obviously is the director but long time member Kenny Gradney truly held the show together.. what a bass player.
I for whatever reason wasn't familiar with Scott Sharrard but I tip my hat to him.. what a guitarist. He lit up the stage.
The brought out Duane towards the end of the show and they ripped thru Southbound much to the crowds approval.
Overall a truly wonderful live experience. As I recall the last time they came thru our area was in 1977. They were suppose to open one year for our local Lockn' festival but
we had a weird storm rip thru the area late that afternoon and the evening was cancelled. The band had a another gig the next day and couldn't stay over and play the following day.
Nice to see live music played by enthusiastic musicians who are truly enjoying themselves on stage.

I've seen the new Feat twice, once here in Iowa City in 2022 and in Des Moines this past summer. I agree that Sharrard is an amazing replacement for Barrere. They really lucked out finding him.

I was impressed by all the chances they took with the material. They were pretty out there with the arrangements, lots of improv, occasionally downright weird. I understand that back in the day Payne wanted to do a lot of this kind of stuff but it pissed off George. Well now it is 100% Bill's show.

The only disappointing thing is that they put out a really nice blues album this year but played only one song. "If you're not gonna play it live, don't bother recording it" is my belief.

Agree.. there were spots where I asked myself "how are they gonna come out of this one.. but again the base player Kenny was always the foundation and smooth as silk they returned.. You could see Bill's eyes light up and a smile come across his face when they pulled it off seamlessly.. We were sitting 10 ft from the stage (left side) so Bill was right in front of us. He even pointed at my wife and gave her a smile.. this morning at breakfast she commented when she was going to shows in her teens / early 20's she would have been over the moon to have that happen.. I did get a minute with Duane after the show out at his mech table and mentioned he did his Dad proud with his guitar licks on Jessica

I saw Little Feat for the first time last year with the current lineup and it was a very enjoyable show. I never got into them back in the day and only got into their music in the last few years. I still don’t like everything they do, but the live show was solid and everyone played great.

I also saw the Allman / Bett’s band a few years ago and agree that Duane is the real deal. I think both of their albums are good too. I had tickets to see them again last year, but the show was cancelled with no reason given, so not sure what happened there, but I hope they come around again.
