Emerson, Lake & Palmer on Tour March 2025!!

Seeing is believing! It's Carl Palmer's band w/Keith and Greg on big screens.

Here's the tour schedule from Carl's website. All in the Northeast (for now). I would go to this if it came to Texas.

I would go see this if it came locally, but he never seems to play my area.

The Derry, NH, show is about a half hour from me. Sounds enticing and ticket prices bought directly from the venue aren't too expensive, but I've seen the real thing many times in the 70s, so I doubt I'd get much of a bang out of this. I think this sort of show has been tried with Elvis and Hank Williams. I wonder how they went over with audiences.

You probably won’t be wowed by this. I’ve seen it twice already and yeah, after seeing them in their prime this kinda falls short. It’s commendable that Carl wants to honor Emo and Lake, but I wish he chose a better backing show than Albert Hall in the 90’s. Montreal 77 would be my choice, or Cal Jam 74 maybe. Also there’s an equal amount of just Carl’s band playing without the video accompanying them.

As much as I love ELP (and Carl Palmer's Drumming), this kind of show is not for me. At the very least, Palmer's still working and he's doing what he wants to do.

I’ll put my two cents in even if it’s not welcomed. If Carl wants to celebrate the music of ELP then i think he’d do better by putting together a good trio with keyboards and bass and vocals and go on tour performing the music. That’s what I’d like to see.

I assume it was chosen because it's the best (only?) multicamera live recording the band made.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Yes, better a tribute band with Carl Palmer on drums, than this, but to each their own.
There are also people going to the Abba show with the Abbatars and Kiss is doing simular.
Recently we had a concert of a Japanese vocaloid with a real backing band.

I'm thinking the Abba and Kiss shows are no expense spared productions.

This is some distance from that, centred around a performance from the fag end of their career.

You are defenitly right at that. The members from Abba and Kiss were all involved in making their 3D recreations and that is of cause completely different from what Carl Palmer is doing, who is basicly limited to existing material from people who are allready dead.

Yeah, the concept of an ELP tribute with no keys or vocals always seemed strange to me. I feel those are the two most important aspects of the band.

Not saying that I necessarily disagree with you, but Carl has been doing this kind of configuration for over 20 years. It must be working for some people. The notion of not trying to duplicate what Greg and Keith did, but taking a different approach is not totally without merit, or logic, though I get why some people aren't into it.

I went to see his show with the guitar instead of keyboards and no vocals. He called it the Carl Palmer band. I thought it was a unique take on ELP and I liked it. I was mostly saying that I think this tribute would be better with the original format keys and vocals.

I fully agree and this seems obvious to everyone... but Carl.
And when he plays in trio configuration (CPB) there's no keyboard player but a guitarist instead... to play ELP's music mainly based on (and know for) keyboards. Go figure...
Maybe I'm wrong but I have the impression that for some unknow reasons C.P no longer wants to play live with a real keyboardist.
Sorry, but I'm not interested by a keyboard-less E.L.P, neither am I by holographic replicas.

I can see his reasoning there. Any keyboardist he hires is just going to be compared unfavorably to Emerson. There was only one Emerson; putting a substitute up there is asking for trouble. Changing the format instead makes a lot of sense to me.

I have some input into Carl's thinking, having worked for Carl over many years. From the start, The Carl Palmer Band was designed as a showcase for Carl Palmer, utilizing the music of ELP. Carl has always stood his ground as to not wanting to replace Keith or Greg. So, presenting the music in a different format seems logical to Carl. Today, the idea to perform alongside the late Keith & Greg on recorded video, makes sense to Carl. It's an addition to his Carl Palmer Show that pays greater respect to Emerson & Lake. It's a win-win. The show is successful, and his venues have been getting considerably larger.

Prior to the video screen show, it had been suggested to Carl by his team to add more musicians to his show. He did do a few shows in Europe with a vocalist. And he also did a tour with Arthur Brown on vocals (for a few songs). But he always stops short of putting a whole new band together.

One thought I have always held - don't equate this to something I know as fact... is that because Carl didn't write the music of ELP, he would feel uncomfortable (or not up to) leading upscale musicians in proper performance of the music. He might need a musical director. A keyboard player and singer would also take the attention away from his spotlight. So Carl lets a guitarist & bass player make their own interpretation of the music, which he has done for 20 years and is doing just fine.

Should be "Emerson," "Lake" & Palmer.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight. I was only looking at it only from a fans perspective and not Carls. I can understand it more from Carls perspective.
