    ZAPPA VAULT wishlist

Here's our wishlist, what are some Zappa vault releases you'd like to see ??

I've said so many times, I imagine most people probably don't need to hear me say it again, but I want the Ritz show from 81. I still say that's the definitive version of the Drowning Witch/What's New In Baltimore?/Moggio suite, and we deserve to have it in the best possible fidelity.

All the money, in unmarked bills would be nice.

If they released the Pittsburgh Syria Mosque March 8, 1988 show, I would bet it would be one of the most popular releases ever. I was there, and the set list was incredible. His playing was completely off the charts. Of the five times I saw him, including two weeks prior to this one, it was, by far, the best. And they were all great.

Luckily, an audience recording is available.

    Set 1:
    Stink‐Foot
    Peaches en Regalia
    Stick Together
My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama
    Willie the Pimp
    Montana
    City of Tiny Lites
    When the Lie's So Big
    Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk

    Set 2:
    Eat That Question
    Black Napkins
Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) (The Beatles cover) (With "Norwegian Jim" lyrics)
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (The Beatles cover) (With "Louisiana Hooker With Herpes" lyrics)
Strawberry Fields Forever (The Beatles cover) (With "Texas Motel" lyrics)
    Sharleena

    Encore:
    Joe's Garage
Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?

    Encore 2:
    Cruising for Burgers

    Encore 3:
    Uncle Remus
Let's Make the Water Turn Black
    Harry, You're a Beast
    The Orange County Lumber Truck
    Oh No
    Lumpy Gravy

The Roxy movie was my #1 item for so long. With it out, anything else is gravy. But one thing I'd love to see is for some of the video footage from the 1988 tour to come out. They mentioned Barcelona, but when I saw them in Columbus, there was a 60 Minutes film crew filming most of if not the whole show. I have to wonder if there's other video of the 1988 tour lurking around.

A One Size Fits All box set would also be great as they talked about on the video.

I'd like to hear The Yellow Shark mixed in surround similar to how it was panned during the original performances.

Anybody else concerned that The Vault is now in the custody of these guys?

I continue to carry on my one-man campaign for a release of San Diego 3/24/73, with special guest Don Preston. Since it didn’t happen with the Overnite Sensation box, I’m afraid it will probably never happen now. But the world is missing out.

I'd like this, especially since the audience recording isn't that good if I remember right. He only performed "Uncle Remus" live a few times so that's notable.

As far as it being a likely release, I don't know how soon they'll go back to March 1988 after the release a few years ago of the Nassau Coliseum show with some of the same songs.

That's the show you saw, right?

I saw him 2 months later and it was splendid. (no Don, though).

Yep, the day after the Hollywood Palladium show that was included in the Over-Nite box. The two shows on the box, between them, do cover a lot of what happened at the San Diego show. But there are still a number of unique aspects to the 3/24 show: the presence of Don Preston sitting in, Frank's "Imaginary Diseases" rap (the only part of the show that has been made public), and a special "conducting the audience" routine.

    .
The raw footage almost certainly no longer exists. When they do stuff for news things, they edit the footage down for the piece, then they erase the masters. Given the fact that we're talking about the company that very nearly ran Fender into the ground, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

True but I wouldn't be surprised if Zappa asked for a copy of the footage and if he were able to get ahold of it, its likely in his vault. Since its been 30+ years, I'm guessing Zappa either didn't ask or CBS didn't comply.

On at least one of the Zappacasts the subject of '88 video came up. I remember Joe mentioned a show in Madrid where FZ added distracting visual effects to the master, but nothing one way or the other about 60 Minutes.
