Just picked up the new Solstafir album 'Otta' in deluxe form (has a nifty 3" CD with three additional tracks).
This is very avant metal, almost closer to post rock than metal, from Iceland. Good stuff, nice production. Vocals are not their strongest point
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Slow Southern Steel
^ After the couple of minutes I've seen of that doc, I want to see all of it when I have time.
I forgot about this thread, and since my Candlemass thread tanked... I wonder if there is hope for me to learn to appreciate Messiah Marcolin's vocals. I really like the band's other vocalists. Marcolin is entertaining to watch in the "Bewitched" video.
My other topic is: has Tommy Iommi sued himself for plagerism over the similarity of the riffs in 'Loner' and "NIB"? just curious. I'm just now listening to 13 on YT.
Someone posted this in the "now listening" thread over on sevenstring.org, and I sorta fell in love with it. For being a one-man, bedroom boffin type situation, it's pretty fantastic. Shoegaze/post-metal with occasional blasts of full-on metal metal.

That means I love it.

Now I'm streaming the new Enslaved!
Awesome.
Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!
I think this is one of the best metal releases of 2012. it's goth, symph, jazzy and avant garde with progressive elements all in one. I don't know what else to call it. enjoy!

I'm digging on this:

I place the Blues Pills in the same category as bands like Graveyard and Siena Root. I refer to it as 'retro rock'. Bands using the same gear and recording techniques that were used in the very early 70s to recreate the hard rock sound of that era.

The new In Twilight's Embrace track is sounding good to these ears:

I like the vocals on this album - sure they're a bit raw, but that's quite refreshing, and by the sounds of stuff going on behind the scenes, I'm not surprised that the singing borders on howls of frustration.
Their newest album Berdreyminn is just as good, if not better.
Enslaved have released a video in anticipation of their new album coming out on October 13th.
“‘Storm Son’ deals with the duality of man and nature, how important and basic that relationship is,” explains songwriter and guitarist Ivar. “Everything we do and create are imitations of nature; as we evolved from nature, that is how it must be – yet modern man thinks he and she is independent of nature, that we somehow are so superior that we do not have to take nature into consideration other than as a backdrop for shitty movies. Or festivals. Losing touch with nature is basically to lose touch with being human.”
And the new Enslaved is out!!!
