Agalloch - The Mantle (really starting to dig this...growing on me. Killer atmosphere)
Bathory - Under The Sign of The Black Mark (classic! Pioneering 1st wave Norwegian black metal)
Burzum - Belus (1st album from Varg affter prison. Pretty great and the production is much better than the classic 90's albums)
Death - Human (Just unbelievable playing and writing. Masterpiece metal imo. Sean Reinert needs to be mentioned as one of the greatest drummers of all time based on this album alone))
Furia - 1) Ksiezyc Milcszy Luty -and- 2) Marzannie, Krolowej Polski (Superb Polish band; really hard to describe but all over the map. Highly recommend both albums)
Bell Witch - Longing (Excellent doom)
Cannibal Corpse - Violence Unimagined (we already discussed this above. Gorgeous love songs)
Yeah, its a metal binge. Loving it and the only other shit I want to listen to right now are Cardiacs (duh) and Sibelius

I enjoyed Burzum and especially Agalloch musically, but ultimately found some of the personal drama too distasteful to continue enjoying them. It happens.Albums spun recently:

Frankie, I've ranted about them before but it's been back in heavy rotation of late...if you haven't checked this out yet, PLEASE DO. Amazing, insane "everything and the kitchen sink" band. Was my favorite "progressive" album of that year.

Canvas Solaris has a recent release that I have yet to spin. If you haven't already listened to Thy Catafalque, highly recommended. Does include some choral and chanting, but no lyrical vox as best as I can recall. Posting this reminded me I hadn't picked up the latest, so I had to buy both the CD and T-Shirt.

Furia seems to have roots in black metal, but they are way more stylistically diverse than yer average black/white corpse painted BM bands. Some nice dynamics too, all in a very organic sound with a real "live" band feel and sound. Apparently they are fairly big in Poland.
This is pretty cool and very different than what I was expecting.
Any chance there is a CD release of this one?

Screw it...taking a deep dive into the past for this one
3rd and the Mortal are literally the reason I got into metal. So much of what I'd heard prior was thrash or hair metal shared by school friends and it did little for me. But a friend loaned me Painting on Glass and it blew my world apart. Dark female vocals, burned out groove with tuned down drums, and...a trombone solo? What the hell? Overnight, anything felt possible and the more I explored, the more I found to love in so many of the different subgenres. And then of course, maudlin of the Well recalibrated my ears to vocal growls and....sky's the limit!
Painting remains a top desert island disc of all time. Arguably the follow up In this Room was even better, more progressive and more fearless, but I'll always have a huge fondness for Painting in my collection

I loved The 3rd And The Mortal from the first time I heard them. I have Tears Laid In Earth, Painting On Glass, Memoirs, and EPs And Rarities. Somehow I am missing only In This Room. Haven't listened to the band in a while. Thanks for the reminder. I'll play some soon. For now, I'll play the videos you posted.
