Agreed - something with Bill was he always seemed to play the right part at the right time…could play keys AND drums in a show! Especially the 2017 show released stuff, his keyboard stuff really sticks out awesomely, like the distorted synth and mellotron work on level 5 from Chicago or the stuff he’s doing on fracture from Mexico 2017. Basically, both those releases highlight some all of what bill brought to the table. Hell those 2017-2018 tours where they ran an 8-man lineup out there were just bonkers 3 hour shows that were tons of fun with tons of material. Glad that even though bill is not around anymore, there’s tons of material recorded and released to enjoy for years to come.

Here is the "New Crim Album" playlist I made. I think I updated it six months ago or so.

    "Walk On" / Meltdown
    "CatalytiKc No. 9" / Meltdown
    "The Errors" / Chicago
    "Separation" / Secrets & Lies
"Three Head Doom (Part 1)" / The Elements 2014
    "Cool Jam" / Meltdown
"The Light of Day" / The Elements 2016
    "Interlude" / Meltdown
"Radical Action / Meltdown" (live in studio) / from the KC50 series (and I figure it's on the upcoming boxset, too)
"Devil Dogs of Tessellation Row" / Meltdown
"Radical Action II / Larks' V" / Europe 2019 tour (DGM download)
"Hell Hounds" / Europe 2019 tour
"Suitable Grounds for the Blues" / Europe 2018 (DGM download)
"The Scarcity of Miracles" / Europe 2016 (DGM download)

I include the Jakko solo song and Crim's workings of the Jakszyk, Fripp, Collins' tunes. And the "RAII --> LV" works to well as a new tune not to include it.

The DGM downloads were all released as separate shows, but I just saved them all as "Europe 2016" or "Japan 2019," so I don't remember where the individual tracks came from. Heck, DGM might not even have them for free downloads anymore.

And, yes, that is a version of "Suitable Grounds" (and not "The Errors" like some wags think) with Stacey's Tippett-like piano attack. It's good stuff.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

Oddly fripp seems to be in a studio with his full setup in the lunar probe….wonder what he’s up to? If you check his Facebook, you’ll see it….no clue but curious what may come!

^ "in the lunar probe." Pretty obvious. He's going to the moon with NASA.

You have not heard anything like Vostok Lake, nor do you know anyone who has.

Yeah. Thought about all that. But I figured the playlist should feel like an album. Six or seven drumsongs might be a bit much.

I added “Separation” and not “Under Lock and Key” because an early version of the former appears on the 2014 tour box but, meh, that logic seems flimsy. I guess I just like “Separation” more.

In the specially filmed one-hour performance from 2018 that appears in the box. Well, it's only a "studio" version in that there is no audience. It's more like a "live without an audience" performance in my book - and to me it feels more like a filmed rehearsal.

I find it interesting that the two live sets in the package are one without an audience, and another with an audience totally unlike the average KC concert audience, i.e. a very large crowd of people, many filming with their phones, and chanting riffs and choruses. Neither being the best possible representation of a KC performance, imho.

I'd guess phone filming was common in their shows the last decade or so. Maybe not chanting choruses though.

Are you kidding ? KC are well-known for forcibly banning phone filming at their shows, and I agree with that policy. The only exceptions were those rare open-air gigs in the summer of 2019. Strangely, Robert doesn't look like he's particularly suffering from it. I guess he was too happy seeing a lot more young and/or female faces than usual in the audience.

The last time I saw them was an open air gig (Ravinia w/Zappa band opening, 2021). I don't remember seeing phone filming (my friend and I were only a few rows back from the stage) but I'd be surprised if some people didn't try it.

At one of the early 2000s shows I saw, there was a guy directly in front of me who was recording with one of those stealth rigs with microphones in a pair of eyeglasses and the wires running down the back of his neck. Couldn’t have been less conspicuous. And damned if he didn’t get busted anyway by Fripp’s spies.

It's in the booklet for the boxed set of the doc. This being said, future releases have been mentioned in liners for Tour Boxes that have yet to appear, like a full CD of 2004 working sessions by Fripp, Belew, Levin and Mastelotto.

Question for us dummies who probably haven't been paying close enough attention:
Does the material on the CDs in the box also appear on the BR/DVD set, or are they unique to the box?

Some of it does, but in most cases very short segments. And as far as I can tell, a whole lot doesn't appear at all - I'm thinking of the "Lizard" medley, none of which I remember hearing in the doc.

(Addendum, having better understood the question: The blu-ray/DVD double discs don't include ANY of the audio-only material on the CDs, although I suppose technically they could have made everything fit, certainly on the blu-rays - but you need to buy the boxed set version to have that extra material...)

Now that you say that, I remember seeing an announcement for USA 2 in one of the tour boxes. What did that become? Live in Toronto? Chicago and/or Meltdown?

No idea (though not "Meltdown", which is from Mexico, and "Toronto", from Canada, so neither could have been called "USA 2" at any stage). When I read the title at the time, what I had in mind was more from the spring 1974 US tour, but would that make sense after the reissued/expanded USA already had what amounted to a full show, plus there's so much stuff already on the various boxed sets...)

It's a longtime habit of Fripp's of dreaming up potential releases, it seems. Not sure how advanced they are at the time he first mentions them. Perhaps they're actual projects being worked on, but my feeling is some of them are just fantasies of the "perhaps we have enough of this for a whole CD if we really look" variety.
