If you see it as a "show" I agree it wasn't good. A K.C concert is not a "show" (and never was since the mid-70ies) in the common sense of the term, but a bunch of selected musicians very concentrated to play technically difficult parts the better they can, so as not to disappoint their Master (which will be disappointed anyway !).
And in the many K.C reincarnations I had the chance to see live I've never seen the musicians giving the impression to be happy to be there (or in the band). There should be some (extra-musical) reasons for this I won't debate about here.

But technically (and musically) speaking the two latest K.C concerts I attended were as close to perfection as possible, including the P.A sound and mix. I can easily live without the "show" aspect of rock concerts provided that the music and performance are good. And they were.

But I'm quite sure R.Fripp would disagree about this.

La Luna was not very good, IMHO.
if you talk of anniyance towards the publuic, there was certainly an incident at the start of Aspic 1, where someone yelled out loud to some people that were talking loudly during the quiet intro to shut up. That was heard by everyone in the hall, including on stage. Since that was early in the show, obviously the band was cooled off, since they didn't know the background behind the shout. I wasn't impressed by that show, the sonics were average (as always in La Luna) and the encores didn't include Schizoid. However, I did see Frippy move slightly, which reassured me that it wasn't a mummy in proxy.

However, at the Beaux Arts show a couple of months later, they were much more vailliant (and Schizoid was played). Day & light comared to the previous gig. To think I almost didn't attend the second, because I was disappointed by their first makes me shudder.
That's on that gig that we became aware of the Prog-resiste crew & fanzine, as they were handing out cheap photocopîes of their first five mags.
Are you saying Crimson played Lark's 1 on the Thrak tour? I'm not doubting, just asking. I did see the Thrak tour in Vancouver, but I wouldn't want to be quizzed on what they played. In general, I recall reading of Crimson of that era playing Lark's 2, Red and Schizoid Man, of the old stuff. I would love to hear any version of Lark's 1 from that band, if it exists.

Lark's One was never played by Thrak band.

It skipped from 1974 to 2014.

Really? You never saw Adrian Belew bopping up and down and grinning widely at the audience? That’s the predominant mental image I have of Crimson from all the lineups he was in, especially in the ‘80s. Admittedly, I do seem to recall that ‘95 incarnation as being more subdued.

I've seen K.C with Belew only once. He sure was an entertainer (the only one in the band at that time) and added some visual dynamics to the show... but (AFAICR) he never displayed a very happy or joyful face.

The recent line ups looked happy and energized, even Fripp. I've been seeing Crimson since 2000 and have enjoyed every show. The recent ones have been outstanding. The worst was when Fripp hid behind his massive rig.

On the '81 Discipline tour the band were all clearly having a ton of fun. Belew and Bruford were the most obvious but RF was also definitely having a good time.

I remember RF looking happy at my last KC show in 2021, in a sitting back and observing the proceedings sort of way.

Is a smiling Fripp a requirement? Is the music "happy"? I've seen KC since the 1980s and he looks like he's concentrating on some fairly complex music.

That was 30 years ago, and my dad & grandad died from Alzheimer complications.
So yeah, I wouldn't like to be quizzed about the set-list either.
Anyways, it was one of those real quite percussive moments (like Trio, the start of Easy Money or Exile), so normally the audience is dead quiet to hear it. Obviously there were newbies to Crimson that were talking (probably more than whispering) during the moments (this incident could go in the "people that won't stop yapping during concerts" topic), but the "Shut The Hell Up" wad certainly not whispered .
This happened a few meters away, so I was aware of what happened, which was probably not the case across the hall.

the early 80's line-up, Ade was certainly very happy to be at the forefront, but that era only lasted two years or so.

But then again Ade was bopping up & down with Zappa and Talking Heads.

I saw them four times with Ade: the 80's, twice the Thrak tour and once the "catastrophic" TCOL tour, where they played at the Dour Festival (no pun, the place is called that way).
That was totally disheartening, partly because most of the crowd hated it (they were there for four days of rock & techno), but the performance was really not good. It took me around 15 years to go see them again live again.

Yes the 94/5 era, was not as fun for him, Tony and Bill - we vaguely knew Gunn & Matselotto, so "we" watched the previous quartet.

I actually thought Bruford’s contribution was somewhat funny; a jaded pro at being in King Crimson by this point! He must have known what he was getting into when he came back for a second helping, and developed a pragmatic approach - this is going to be a horrible band anyway, so I’ll play what I like and if someone needs time kept they can do it themselves, or get Adrian to do it. Admirable!

Mmm...I guess I"ll see what makes the CDs but this feels like a pass.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I have a number of sets with unplayed blu rays. I should really do something about that....

I have a couple of br players but no receiver/home cinema type equipment. Is there a way of connecting the br player to my standard amp, maybe via the tv? Please excuse my technical ignorance.

my receiver/amp has HDMIs and I connect it to my BR player with a HDMI cord so all movies and music can be played thru my amp/5.1 home theater system
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
