I'm listening to some Bob Dylan albums from the 70s. Now playing Desire. It's Bob Dylan. I like it.

I've been practically o.d.-ing on Desire and Street Legal. Frickin wonderful albums!

I blow hot and cold on Zimmy, but I've collected about 20 CDs over the years. A half dozen are from the Bootleg Series. Of those I really enjoy 1-3, Another Self Portrait, and The Cutting Edge. But they're all good.

I return to Another Self Portrait regularly. It is an excellent collection of songs, but much like the original, doesn’t quite hang together as an album (which is not a sin in my book).

A new collection, 1970, looks to have some of these tunes on it.

A new, 27-disc (!) box of 1974 live recordings is on the way:

And I’m reminded that I never picked up the Budokan set.

There's a one-song sampler streaming now of "Forever Young" from one of the Seattle shows. I believe I'm in the minority but I love the Before The Flood record. The Band was so good and Dylan's delivery on a lot of those songs is so strong. I don't know if I'm a big enough fan to drop $130 for this set but if a "highlights" package is made available I'll be all over it.

When I saw it was going to be 27 discs, I expected a price of at least two bills. $130 is a bargain. I'm in.

Especially given the outrageous pricing of the Budokan set. Four discs for $120? Yeesh!

But 27 discs is a lot, and I'd be in for a highlight two- or three-disc set.

That's an awful lot of shows. I have a couple of bootlegs from that tour, but might go for the sampler.

If you haven't heard the '75 live release from several years ago, I highly recommend it.

You mean the Rolling Thunder box? It's great, but I wish it weren't just the Dylan performances. That tour was billed as a revue; it would have been cool to have at least one complete show with everybody's set.

Which is the case with the 1974 set too (none of the Band's songs). A bit disappointing although I suppose there are reasons.

I attended a concert on the Dylan/Band 1974 tour. Enjoyed it immensely. But I am satisfied that Before The Flood is a good live album for the tour. I might go for a sampler, but not 27 discs.

I saw Bob twice more after that. With the Grateful Dead in 1987, and with his own band in 1992.

A highlight set is definitely in order. 27 discs might be essential for some, but I'll settle for a sample.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

I suppose you could say Before the Flood is the highlights set.

I'm not a Dylan fan, so I won't be buying this, but I'm totally jealous of that price point.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Knowing how influential and respected Dylan is, I'm possibly putting my head in the lion's mouth here, but I purchased the Complete Budokan set as a download and was inspired to blog a review.

Bare in mind that I only have a couple of his albums, so I'm not a full subscriber, and that the review is written from that point of view, for a wider readership, but perhaps you'll find it interesting:

Does anyone know what's going on with the 1974 box? I got a delay email from Amazon, who appear to be no longer offering it directly. Dylan's website shows it as "sold out." I see on Facebook that buyers in the UK have already received it.

Lots of posts about it at Hoffman. At least one person posted a photo of the CD set - I think someone in the US but I'm not positive.

If it sold out, there’s no way Universal (or whoever) doesn’t manufacture more. Right?

New Bob Dylan Biopic coming this fall staring Tomothy Chalamet is Dylan:

^Talked to a buddy of mine who’s a film guy, and he said Chalamet looks good in this, or such is the talk.

In sort of related news, my wife and I will be seeing The Girl from North Country musical next week. Not a big fan of musicals, but this should be fun.

When it finally shipped, Amazon knocked $22 off the already cheap preorder price. Sweet!

It’s a great shame that the Band’s interludes are not included. Of course that would have doubled the size of the already massive set…

^It’s a lot to be sure. Digging the set so far, though I’ve only listened to three or four discs. This’ll take some time to digest.

My disc 4 would not play in my CD player. I was able to listen to it on my Blu-Ray player instead.
