    Sonny Landreth (Blues)

I have been on a bit of a Sonny Landreth kick this week. He is one of the best slide players on the planet and I have always thought was an underrated songwriter as well. My favorite album is “South Of I-10”, but also enjoying “Outward Bound”, and “Levee Town”. Any other Landreth fans out there?

I've got five of his CDs and one boot so I'd say I'm a fan.

Yeah, he's great. But labeling him as blues is misleading. He's one of the more eclectic players out there.

True, not sure why I put that in the title, now that I think more about it. Sonny is very diverse.

Sonny can play a lot of styles. He does favor Louisiana blues but he synthesizes a lot of influences into one pot of gumbo. And live he just BURNS.

I have seen him live solo once and several times playing with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. Yea, he is amazing live. The Buffett shows were all in big stadiums, but when I saw him solo it was in a theater where you could get right up close. He put on an incredible show.

Agreed. He's about the most non-clichéd slide player around. And he's great!

I picked up South of I-10 back in the day, forget how I happened upon it but I was on a blues kick so it might have been through that avenue. Fantastic album.
