    The linguistic truth of the matter is that most people in a given region speaking the same language or dialect pronounce things exactly the same, with variations usually only occurring when migrants move in to an area and use the same language or dialect. It has been proved that people moving back to their original birth/home area, even after many years away, very quickly return to their home dialect/pronunciations (i.e. if they had lost it), with no problems at all, in many cases almost immediately i.e. within hours or days.

    I'd be interested to know how they translate it to English, hopefully as Raven.

    No, that doesn't help.

    Because I know Irish, for me it is fee-yax doo. Even pretending it is an English spelling I only get fee ack dub. What am I missing?

    Fiach = 1.debt, 2. hunt 3. raven (with dubh)

    Dubh = black

    Here is Corvus Corax (Raven) with Fiach Dubh (Raven)

    ^That was interesting. I also read the piece on Brooklyn accents. Always wondered how the NYC accent developed.

    I say ant, not ont.

    Obviously I'm bored to dredge up this thread......

    Yeah - I'm from Glasgow and I live in New York, so I get pulled up for my pronunciation all the time. My late mother-in-law used to love referring to me as a FYNE PERRSON - making fun of the way I pronounce both those words.
    The first time I was aware that I even had an accent was when I went to London at about age 9 for my aunt's funeral and I asked for a spoon on the train down from Glasgow. The guy serving food there got hysterical repeating 'a spoon ye want laddie?' in a mock Scottish accent. Cunt!

    How do you say Zeuhl? I like to pronounce it as 'tsoyl, aka the "German" way. The "French" way doesn't sound as badass.
    For those who are geeky enough to check the IPA guide here's the IPA: 'tsɔʏ̯l

    I've always said ZULE, like it rhymes with mule, or you'll. Straight up Z sound, not TS. But that's just me...
