I was listening to America's debut album & it made me wonder if anyone today is still doing that. Any suggestions? (I'll pass on Alice in Chains)

Amplifier's latest release Echo Street may satisfy your requirements. This is their first CD to feature ex-Oceansize guitarist/singer Steve Durose and replacement bassist/singer Alexander Redhead (aka Magnum).

There is plenty and has been back for awhile -- particularly in the Pop world and has returned since the Pop-Punk revolution of the early 00s.
Actually, The hack 90s seems to be the only era that eschewed it: 3-Part Harmony was probably "too happy" a flavor to use in music meant to be moody and angry.
Yes, really!
There is a BIG difference between two-part harmonies and three-part harmonies --- especially three-part accapellas (no comparison, really). The pop-punk bands that had taken over for grunge in the early 00s were adding a lot of three-part harmonies (Good Charlotte comes to mind).....I'll give you King's X (whose vocals are phenomenal) but, really, they count as a pre-grunge group, don't they? ----- If you think about it, the popular mainstream rock bands in the 90s that were doing the 90s "Thang" that had three-part harmonies (Collective Soul for one) were so few and far in-between, I can probably count them on one or two hands
My comment about pop-punk was because you cvalled it a revolution. Can't say I even remember a pop-punk scene, and I have no idea what Good Charlotte sound like. Doesn't mean it didn't exist, I just don't rememeber anything like that. Yeah, a big difference between two and three part harmonies, and in the case of a band like Moon Safari, five part harmonies. I'm not sold on their music, but I was so impressed with their vocal abilities when I saw them at Rosfest.
Sorry: I only used "revolution" as a metaphor -- I was just saying that it became the big mainstream/commercial rock thing that replaced the 90s mainstream rock thing.................and, yeah, Moon Safari's harmonies are spectacular!!!!! Right up there on par with Little River Band (whom also had with 5-part harmonies)
It doesn't get much better than Magic Pie, who Geez mentioned. They remind me of 70's Chicago harmonizing.
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...
Okay, I have to say we have 3-part harmonies on 5 of the 8 tracks on the new Cirrus Bay album. Although the 2 backing vocals are more subtle, with one voice taking the lead. This is something we really didn't do on our previous albums.
