Thread: Post something cool

That's Todd, of course, plus Kasim Sulton on bass, John "Willie" Wilcox on drums, all of whom were members of the only stable configuration of Utopia; and a new keyboard player, Gil Assayas, of whom I have never heard. They had to get a new one because the fourth member of that configuration, Roger Powell, does not get along with Todd these days.

The first time I saw that four-man configuration, on the tour for the RA album, they played the Utopia theme much as it is here, maybe a little more guitar-heavy in the mix.

Todd I more or less recognized, but the others not. I have performance of what was probably the Ra tour on a DVD-R recorded from a Rockpalast concert. https://www.rockpalastarchiv.de/concert/rundgren.html

I remember seeing this for the first time back in the early 80's and being very moved by both the animation and the music. There is a very slight chance some of you guys may not have seen it so I post.

I loved it. Also have a DVD from Utopia with a concert from 1980, but I think I prefer the Rockpalast performance.

Yeah, RA was pretty much the peak of Utopia as a "proggy" band. There were good songs on all the albums (and all the songs on Deface the Music are hilariously brilliant), but they never came near that level of experimentation and craft again.

The version on bandcamp is longer but this version is worth watching for the video.

I have the album, but I'm not really a fan. They also had a 2nd album.

Flawless performance, under rated and hugely influential on the British Invasion groups..

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
