I couldn't find a post mentioning the French band Apairys (unless youtubes or Bandcamps were posted without textual information), so I guess this is the place. The band released its second CD in May this year, called Ni l'espace, ni le temps.... It containes adventurous progressive rock.

Their first album, Vers La Lumière, was released in 2019 and sounds fine too.

How come it's never some audio from Groucho Marx leading into a song?

The interesting thing is, that for the live show the guitar was very up front, as was the bass. Taking Illiterate, as an example, that sound is really heavy live, but more produced and less punchy on the album.

However, having listened to Twenty Pill Without Water a handful of times now, I do like it and think it is a pretty solid return to interesting music after Frosting didn't really do it for many around these parts.

All one-liners aside, I enjoyed the Ice album. Has that epic sound I like.

Took the time to listen to Lemures by IBdB (you know, from that other thread), and, well, it could be a very solid album if Leone would keep his mouth shut.

The new Papangu is simply stunning, the palette is far wider than the debut, and includes great doses of symphonic prog, jazz rock and straight Tropicalia (who would have thought). The way the band incorporates all these disparate elements in a cohere, single work is amazing - but of course it requires listeners with the same open-minded spirit as the band. I dare say Lampiao Rei is an instant classic of the Brazilian progressive scene.

Alright, I bit on this one. I have to say, when I first sampled it, I basically shut it off because of the vocals on those first couple of tracks. Very off-putting to me. I gave it a bit more attention and see that those clear up after that second track. If the whole album was that way, I'd have never been able to listen to it. Get past that, and the music is actually pretty darned good, and even the vocals in the other tracks are perfectly decent.

That last longer track is pretty awesome with an extremely Canterbury feel. It sounds really familiar to me. Are they borrowing themes from another song? I don't have the writing credits, so I can't tell if this is a sort of cover. Maybe it's just similar to something I've heard. Who knows.

Anyway, I'm glad I took a second listen prompted by what you said. If I wind up not liking it, you owe me $20 bucks.

I'm enjoying the new album by Anubis titled The Unforgiveable. An album length suite of songs. I guess Neo-Prog. Emotional. Very melodic.

There are some sparse growls in two other tracks, and in unexpected places (I like this). About the last track, there's so much going on. If you're referring to the main theme, it didn't ring a bell to me. But it's a really beautiful melody. The record seems to contain two parts, like in the old vinyl "side A", "side B" days. The first one is heavier, and more of what you'd expect from the band. The second is more in the Brazilian vein, and the last track somehow puts it altogether in place. Anyway, that's how I hear it. Hope you like it, although you're a hard customer to please

It is, and that is definitely what I was referring to. The song is quite diverse, but held together really well. It was definitely the most interesting thing on the album to me, and sort of "sealed the deal," but I liked basically all the songs after that second growly song. I even like the music in the growly songs, just not the growls, but I'm still giving it a shot because that's a relatively small part of the album. It kind of reminds me of Akineton Retard, who did some freaky vocal things from time to time (not growling, but just sort of "wild" stuff). That wasn't really my cup of tea, but there wasn't enough of that to keep me from the rest of the music.

Hadn't listened to this band until this album, but as a fan of the L.A. punk band Bad Religion, I'm a bit reminded of them. Good guitar work. At times touches of something like Tool.

Addendum: I just finished listening and was very impressed by this album. I don't normally lean to heavy stuff preferring melodic and soaring and all of that kind of Prog sound. However, this was a strong album.

The new single from Frost*, "Moral and Consequence," really brings to mind Neal-era Spock's Beard.

I like to keep it positive, but the new album (released on 9/15/24) by Myth of Logic, Light At The End, is musically quite nice. Sympho, Neo, wherever in that axis. It's the vocals. Sometimes there should be someone who can say no.

Addendum: I'm not saying, "OMG, this is like the worst singer ever." No, but it's weak. A better singer would have elevated the music.

The new Forq album Big Party is out and it is Quite Good IMO. Not strictly prog, but members of this parish of a sufficiently jazzy disposition ought to get a kick out of it. There's Snarky Puppy connections, but Forq add a bit more wonk to proceedings, which is no bad thing, if you ask me.

No bandcamp listing by the looks of it, so here's the video for the closing track on the album:

^^I've enjoyed their previous albums. This is one weird song, haha.

I need to get this. I wasn't crazy about their previous studio album (less prog), but the one before it was very good, and they have a couple of other good ones too. Not too well known here - they're from Australia.

Well, I guess you are a lucky one.

Tried to order this with a couple of other moonjunes. The other CDs arrived, but not this one, despite getting a shipping notice for it. Trying to get in touch with someone now, but doing that through bandcamp doesn't seem to be a smooth process.

    Maybe one day...

Fusion bassoonist Paul Hanson has teamed up with Raze The Maze (Moorea Dickason and Tarik Ragab of Moetar) to release a new album yesterday, Calliope. If you're not familiar with Paul, let me just say you've probably never heard anyone play a bassoon like him.
