Thread: Magma news

  1. #1401
In case anyone here was planning to attend...

"We are deeply sorry to cancel the MAGMA concert at Motocultor festival tomorrow August 15. Christian Vander fell down a staircase and fractured his elbow. He had to undergo a surgical procedure and is now doing well. More news soon.''

Oh damn. That is most unfortunate. Glad it seems to only be a fractured elbow, but even still I hope he can recover quickly.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.

On the plus side, Christian just invented some choice new words in Kobaian.

"only a fractured elbow" is, on the good side, something he can recover his health from; but at his age, it's quite likely that he won't be able to drum anymore. Magma (as we know it) may be over.

I very much doubt this, Sturgeon's Lawyer. Even at 75, once the pins are out there is no reason to suspect excess lost function. I suspect he may be out of action for a couple of months at best. But I am absolutely certain that he will be back in action. Any decision to end Magma will not arise from this. And even if he lost ability, he can still write, sing and play keyboards. I asked Caroline Indjein (through IG) how he was doing and she told me he was responding nicely and was not in pain. Doing well.

^^^ Well, I sincerely hope you are right; but septuagenarians' bones do not heal as quickly or as well as younger folks; but I was mostly thinking of the muscle loss, and lack of practice, which will also be harder for an older person to make up.

I listened to about 25 minutes of that. The players are top-notch, but the composition sounds like they understood everything about Vander's compositional style and technique -- except what makes it great.

If this were some "lost" Magma concert with unknown material we would all think it was fantastic......
